Hi

Just a quick question .

I attained gold membership a couple of months ago in August, and since then I have accumulated another 30 tier points to remain at gold for another year, which I guess will be from August 2009, so what happens to any further tier points collected between now and end of August 2009, do I lose them.

Thanks

Penny

Hi

Thanks for the quick reply, will have to stop booking so many holidays until next August, shame to lose all the points.

Maybe book with a different carrier and earn a status in either elite program.

Well if you get to a 100 TP on VS there's a 'hidden' tier ;)

oooh really?

Doubt very much I would get to 100 points as my flights are purely leisure not business.

Thanks anyway

I can now answer the infamous 100 TP club question ...

I'm on 98 TPs and my year ends this month, i.e next Sunday, November 30th. I need to fly to the US again that week and can fly either Sunday, Nov 30th or Monday, Dec 1st. Flying Sunday would take my final TPs to 103, flying Monday would see me end with 98TPs and start the renewal year with 5TPs.

I called FC to ask about the benefits of going over 100TPs and explained my options. The chap acknowledged I was a most valuable customer and went on to say ...

There is no 100 TP level, it's a myth. Gaining 100TPs will make no difference. He suggested I fly Monday and start accumulating for my renewal.

So there you go, from the horse's mouth ...

Then you spoke with/listened to... the wrong horse.

Sorry.

Absolutely not the case, see what happens - however there is a qualifying period and without detail I wouldn't know if you've met that.

My 98 TP's have all been accumulated with Virgin flights and within 12 calendar months, its clear in my account and my renewal is end of November. The horses mouth is the FC gold line that I called (not a mate or anything).

I said to the chap 'are you sure ...?' 'I thought that there was maybe a ...'. He was quite clear, he seemed to understand what exactly I was asking about.

It could be so secret that it can't be discussed until you get to the 100TP. Could be that they don't want people to qualify (counter productive I would have thought). I've asked a colleague today who has 108TPs and he heard nothing whe he clicked over, nothing changed (all his TPs are with virgin too).

Perhaps it used to exist and no longer doesn't ...

With the amount of VS flying you obviously do Au re-qualification won't be a problem for next year so I would take the Sunday flight and see what happens. [;)]

Yes, good point, re-qualification shouldn't be a problem. This year has been exceptional though and I expect to drop to 30-40 TPs next year, hence the slight dilema.

I guess if something happens I wouldn't be able to say anyway. I'll pass on some notes to Dan Brown so he can write another conspiracy book about secret societies.[:D]

The qualification period is not necessarily 12 months nor your membership year - VS will contact you if you qualify, that's all I can say [:w].

very cryptic slinky, the mystery deepens ...

So I guess its possible it wouldn't make any difference whether I fly Sunday or Monday if the renewal year isn't important. without giving too much away, in your opinion - would it be best to fly Sunday or Monday?

fyi in the last 6 months, since june 1st, I accumulated 69 of those 98 points.

Any other pointers ...

How many of the TP's are from VS metal?

See five posts ago [:w].

Oh, to much, OK it's 98 according to 98er.

Yes, all 98 TPs were gleaned on VS flights.

Slinky, all makes sense now! Your comment about qualifying period could explain why the FC guy said flying Sunday or Monday doesn't make any difference. If the secret club isn't linked to 100TPs nor membership year, then gaining another 10TPs next week may or may not make any difference to membership of secret club.

Does make you wonder though - if 79 TPs on virgin metal in 6 months isn't enough - what is????

The FC staff are, as I found out, often clueless... I'd wait for the system, or for some special invitation.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are also told to not tell you about the 'secret club', so as to not raise the expectation to be invited, and then, when you hit 100 TP, aren't (and then chuck your toys out of the cot because of it).

Depends what number you are calling (depending on your FC status) - I've rarely had any issues with Premier.

I recently went through 100TP - I now have 120TP all accumulated on VS planes and all accumulated within the last 4 months. I will be over 150TP by Xmas.

Going over 100TP triggered no commuication from Virgin. I received nothing to state that I would receive their 'Ultimate' status - in fact one of the first flights I was on after reaching 100TP I was bumped - though I managed to get back on the flight as they bribed someone else with points to take a later flight.

My agent spoke to FC who stated that invitations to Ultimate status are only sent out two times a year and the next date was May. I would need to wait until then to see if I would qualify.

This is a little frustrating as it is now that I would benefit from a status that would hopefully prevent me from being bumped again.

Don't get too excited! While the team that look after GBTOPS at the Office are amazing, you will notice little, if any difference when flying. In my experience, maybe 1 flight in 10 your status is recognised in some way either on baord or at the airport, rarely both. Times have changed since the V50 which really was status to be aspired to. Each year, more people gain access to the progamme and each year, the benefits are less, in my view.
