Happy New year all!!! I hope that 2009 will be a good year for you all and a much much better one for me... Long story, but thank God 08 is over. Anyway, moving on.

I have 45K odd miles at the moment, does anyone have any suggestions as to what the best thing to do with them is, if anything, as I am not sure?

Thanks

My first thought is - keep saving. [8D][:D]

A lot depends on your future plans and earning opportunities. I am firmly in the camp that believes the best value use of miles is Upper Class Rewards, so you have a fair way to go before getting there.

The taxes and charges for Y / PE rewards at the moment hardly make them cost effective IMHO.

Can you get a VS Amex in Ireland? That is the easiest way to quickly accrue points, but I seem to recall that they aren't available to you.

Others may have good ideas with regards to upgrades, but I think you should hold onto them. [;)]

I'd hunt down another 15k and upgrade an econ seat to a G class return somewhere you'd not of normally gone to...Failing that, spend a bit more £ and go from up from PE.

Good luck into 09!!

Another option that doesn't cost anything in extra charges would be to use them on a Virgin Ballons trip. I was almost going to do this and give to the other half at Christmas but then a trip to LAX came up so will blow them all on an upper upgrade before switching all my miles earning to BA.
