The nightmare begins... B&S to MCO in Y [n]

Mini NH gets to go to MCO in May, booked flights and at seat allocation the map shows five sporadic seats scattered around the Y cabin.

Appreciate these aren't firm bookings, and only requests.

But on the map provided, I'll be at one side of A/C, mrs NH at other and Mini NH (3 yr old) sat at the back next to strange man [}:)]

Any suggestions? Try OLCI as soon as poss/ get to MAN early to see if can bag bulkheads)

At least the return in MAN style PE and managed to request 2+1 upstairs.

OLCI will be your best bet. Only 60% of the a/c is available for pre-selection so that leave the other 40% to open at OLCI stage and usually they are the rows towards the front of the Y cabin so a better seat anyways for immigration etc.

If that still fails you always have bulkheads that can only be allocated at airport check in. As you are a family they are required by law to sit at least 2 of you together, so no luck is palming Mini NH off with some other pax[}:)]

Shame as the though of Mini NH scribbling away next to a FF in a LROM style for 8.5 hrs in Y would of been funny.. 'Are we nearly there yet?'[V]

Neil, are you 100% sure about this? My step sister travelled with BA last year and was worried about the kids being seperated so mailed Customer Services.
The reply basically said that under EU law they have a duty 'where possible' to sit families together although it's not a legal requirement.

CAA regulations mandate that carriers make every effort possible to seat families together. If you are travelling with a child, and there are not enough available seats that are grouped together, the seat map button will not be displayed.

In all of these instances, your seats will be assigned when you check in for your flight.

Above is the text from the VS website and you are correct in stating that it is not law, but it basically states that VS will ensure that at least one parent/one child are sat together and that they block the seat map to ensure this can be done.

I have been on a flight before where a PA announcement has gone out in Y to ask for volunteers/single travellers to switch seats so that a family could be seated together. VA do seem to do everything they can to satisfy families with regards to seating requirements.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks, I'm not overly concerned, just never seen the map so sparse before. Can imagine if we end up in a 2+1 scenario there'll be some intense haggling with myself & Mrs NH at the gate for who sits where.. [B)]
