Here is a copy of my e-mail, I will let you know the outcome. I'm not going overboard here am I? The flight is in July so I was only going by the information on their web site.

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am somewhat concerned (and annoyed.) I have just pre booked my seats with reservations to be informed that the above flight will not have the suites fitted.
Although, I except that things may change I do not wish to be left in a position of waiting in order to find out. Normally, I would have checked before making the booking (as I did with my next trip to Tobago) but it has now been the case for some time that “The Upper Class Suite is available on:
· all flights to and from New York (JFK);
· all flights to and from San Francisco;
· all flights to and from Hong Kong;
· all flights to and from Tokyo;
· selected flights to New York (Newark), Boston, Miami, Los Angeles and Shanghai.

This was booked my partners Birthday so I need you to help me out here. Do you feel that it is a bit unfair to promise one thing when quite clearly it has been a case for some time that you cannot promise suites on all flights to and from JFK . This is not an operational change, it is quite clearly something that you may not be able to deliver on the day.

What are your plans for this flight and do any of the earlier flights have Suites? As I booked through Virgin Holidays there must be somebody there that you can speak to sort this out. I do not wish to be left in a position to “fight it out” with them and as far as I am concerned Virgin Atlantic has created this obstacle and not Virgin Holidays after all they have only sold me what you had “guaranteed”.

Regards,

Hi Alan,

I do not think there is a vtouch salon at any airports apart from LHR & LGW.

Well the good news is that Virgin Holidays had no problems in changing me onto VS004, (which has a suite) but only because I was within their "cooling off" period. The reason that the last two flights are non-suite is because this is a very busy time of year, basically all of the suite configured a.c are being used elsewhere.

Hi Alan

I take it you booked the VS45 or VS9 to JFK and i'm guessing that these flights are currently shown as 343[?]

My theory on this (which I have been discussing with another member in the Staff/Mods forum) is that all flights for next summer which Commercial haven't yet decided on will be shown as 343 in the system and you should find that a lot of these change to 346 or 744 nearer the time. I think it just allows VS to start selling seats but to finalise an a/c type later on when there is a more accurate idea of forward bookings. Some flts (eg VS7, 3, 19) will always be 744 but particularly on some of the other US routes capacity will change depending on the time of year. I'll check at work later...watch this space! ;)

Cheers

Hi Alan,

Thanks for your help, I feel honoured! Yes, I had booked the VS009 but I have now switched to the VS004. IÕm not too bothered about the flight time so I will stick with the VS004 as it will hopefully be a suite with V-Port. I was wondering if I would be on a A340 Ð 600 or a 747. I did ask Virgin Hols if I could change back to VS009 (if it was later confirmed as a suite) but there was no promise, I will just have to wait and see nearer the time.

Hi Alan

I've just checked the planned a/c types for next summer and it is pretty much as i guessed.

HKG/NRT are planned on 346, VS3/VS1/VS19/VS7 are planned on 744 and everything else ex-LHR is currently planned on 343 (that's 11 deps per day on 9 a/c, not including UCS refits or maintenance or the LGW flts!) [:o)] So I'm sure a lot of these will be amended to 346 or 744 nearer the time.

Cheers

Alan,

Thanks -- panic over (hopefully).

Or maybe VS is thinking of leasing some more 343s! :)

An email from Customer Services says that the planes will updated by the end of November, at which point the 343's will magically change into UCS planes for most routes.
