Hi Guys,

I just have a quick question and hopefully some of you may be able to assist me. I've booked 2 Upper Class seats on the VS045 to New York on the Upper Deck and I've read mixed review's on V-Flyer about the seats, cabin and especially the service received by the crew. Is anyone able to add thier experiences of sitting up there and whether or not I may need to switch my seats?

Many thanks in advance!

Upper deck is the only place to be. I had great service on my last flight, sat in 8A (9a had gone tech).

I much prefer the main deck - the suites up stairs 'seem' narrower to me and I like to sit in the cabin with the bar in (more vibe).

Downstairs here too. I find the upper deck far too hot for my tastes.

Go for the A-zone downstairs, at the very front - Not too hot, wider seats that upstairs, loads more room! Amazing.

I have only been upstairs in UC once and must confess I felt it lacked the atmosphere and buzz you get downstairs so haven't repeated the experience.

Sometimes though, when you want peace and quiet, this may not be a bad thing. [;)]

I prefer downstairs to upstairs. Upstairs lacked atmosphere, most people were asleep( on a day time flight) and received complaints about the noise from my IPOD[:?] Service was good though.

However, much more opportunity to meet fellow travellers downstairs at the bar!

Totally agree about upstairs way too detached from from the whole experience especially if its your first time, plus the two seats closest the rear galley are truly awfull dont take these whatever happens!

cheers

The upper deck is great for a night flight as it's reasonably quiet and removed from potential noise at the bar.On day flights I prefer to be right in the nose downstairs.I've actually found the service level better upstairs.

Just tagging on to this thread to ask about something mentioned above. Are the UC seats different in size upstairs to those downstairs then on the LHR 747s'? Which is the most comfy?

Finally managed to use those miles and am flying back from SFO UC in April..using some advice given to me on here 12 months ago (L to G fare I think) - Thanks for that BTW. soooooo looking forward to it!

The seats in Upper Class on the Upper Deck are slightly longer whereas the seats in Upper downstairs I believe, offer more room across.

The upper deck UCS seats are the same as those on all the Airbus A/C (ie slightly narrower with the smaller retractable arm rest).

I didn't notice any difference in length, although as Tinkerbelle mentioned they are slightly longer when in bed mode up there.

I noticed no obvious size difference between upstairs and downstairs on a 744. I'm 6ft 1'... not exactly slim... and I had plenty of room in 5K. You'd need to be obese to have an issue. Loads of room. I for one loved the fact that it looked to me like I was in a little private plane without all the other randoms behind me. There are closets behind the 5th row which hides the rest of the plane. Of course it's no challenge to venture down to the bar and enjoy that too. I would recommend 5A though as you get served first. Other than that the service was impecable. Plus you get to see the flight crew regularly. That gave me extra comfort as a nervous flyer. I won't be downstairs again on a 744... if I can help it. lol.

Sitting at the nose section is just weird to me. Totally cramped. Fine for families maybe. At least you'll be first to die in a nose first collision/crash I suppose. All the EM emissions from the radar there too. (kidding whiners!)

What a heartwarming thought!

I love siting on the upper deck, get the K seats on the day flight westbound, the A seats are BAKING in bed mode due the the sun beating down on the left hand side upper deck window shades and are actually VERY hot to the touch. Service is great up there with the lowest passenger to crew ratio. The bar is only at the bottom of the stairs if you want it and to be honest, when I am sat in my seat watching movies or eating, I don't really care about a vibe in the cabin, I just wanna watch my movie or eat. It's all about personal preference though I guess, I like the length of the suites upstairs.

Downstairs on outbound and upstairs on return as I seem to sleep better in a smaller cabin.
If travelling alone I like to opt for 11K as you can hide away at the rear of the bubble.

Just returned on VS46 from JFK and actually the first time I've been on a 747 with Upper Class in the bubble.

The beds are longer and being 6'1 that means I can fully stretch out with ease compared to the ones on the 340-300/600 and downstairs on the 747 where I have to lie at a slight angle.

However, it is hotter upstairs than in the nose and of course the 747 is noiser than the 340-600 so my first choice is still the Airbus.

Is the crew ratio still as good upstairs now that the whole thing is UC. I was very fond of the blended product as were the PE passengers, but have not be as happy with the new look, also the toilet to passenger ratio is no longer as good as it was.

There are three crew members on the Upper Deck still - the same as before. Two work in the aisle and one in the galley.
