Flight Amalgamation - What If?

Just heard yesterday that our flight from St Lucia to Gatwick on May 10th is going to drop in to Barbados on the way back!
Flight VS032 becomes VS038. So obviously the 'winter reductions' are continuing.
However my question is what happens if PE is overbooked as a result of the amalgamation and assuming Upper is also full, would we be bumped down the back and if so what recompense would you get? From the original flight map there were already quite a few people in PE from St Lucia, as we couldn't get a seat upstairs when we booked in January.
Would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this. Only upside at the moment is that the new flight leaves two hours later than originally, so more time by the pool[^]

Yes, there is a risk of being bumped back down the plane and any recompense is usually 'negotiated'. There is also the option of being transfered to another flight on another day if the plane is physically full and there are still pax able to wait. You could always be transfered to another airline too.

I had this on a flight from Orlando years ago where they tried to bump me down to economy.. I obviously told them where to get off as I wouldn't' do it for any amount of miles. Although these days I may get tempted but I would need some serious mileage!!!

I think if it was forced on you or a date change/airline change was forced you would have a pretty good case for compensation!!
