Package tours + flight surcharges

Booked our package months back. We've paid the final balance, but to my surprise they haven't whacked us with a fuel surcharge. I'm glad about that, but rather surprised. Any reason why this might be the case?

I assume you are referring to a package booked with Virgin Holidays?
I remember reading some months back that VH absorbed most, if not all of the surcharges - or at least included tam in the main price.

I am sure someone who has used VH will be able to give the definitive answer.

ISTBC, but if the surcharge is over a certain amount, you would have the right to cancel. It could be they didn't impose it as taking a small hit on the surcharge is better than a full cancellation?

I also stand to be corrected but I would be suprised if VH would allow cancellation of a holiday based on a fuel surcharge as all holiday costs are classed as an estimate until the final invoice is sent out.
As you are now way beyond that point just relax and enjoy your break.[:D]

All holiday companies will only absorb a certain amount of surcharges before they pass it on to the customer. In the case of VH, it's 2% of the total holiday cost, but be warned, they can increase the total cost even after you have been invoiced as long as they give you 30 days notice.

This does also work the other way as well. If the price drops by more than 2%, you are entitled to a refund.

You only get the option to cancel (or choose another holiday package) if the price increase is more than 10% of your total holiday cost.

The only time they can't increase your holiday price is if it's less than 30 days before your departure.
