This will be my first time flying on a LHR config plane. Are all the PE seats the new type now and what are they like please?

I believe that all LHR config are the new style purple leather stylee seat. I found them pretty comfortable. I felt there was a little less leg room on the A340-300 configuration than the 600, but that might have just been perception rather than fact.

You could have a look at the 'seat ratings' for individual seats on different plane configurations to get an idea of what other people think.

But remember that one persons absolutly fabulous seat might be someone elses idea of hell on wheels so use it as a guide and not gospel.

The seats are wider/ slippy & purple, which is a major plus point, leg room 'seems' similar to the old style PE, improved head support and better sized IFE screen, plus you 'should' get films on demand- others will confirm, on the 600's at least the ones we've flown, the loos appear revamped/ updated as well.

The 300 series planes also have the purple leather seats, but not the VOD. Depending on where you are flying to, there can be 3 options. For example, on the Boston route, you can travel on a 747 or the 300 or 600 series planes. The SFO route is typically a 747.

I think the leather PE seat is the most comfortable of them all. Enjoy it.

Here is a photo of the new style seats on an A346, I can't find any of the new seats in the cabin layout on the 747, but they are the same seats just in a 2-4-2 config instead of the 2-3-2 config on the Airbus a/c.

Unless you're on G-VSUN which has V-Port fitted. [8D]

I find them pretty comfy. Some seats do have the IFE box underneath them though, which can make stretching out (for those of us with long legs anyway!) not easy.

Also, if you are booking a flight fairly last minute and you know there is a light load in economy, then I would save money and just book a seat in the back. Economy seats have the advantage of the centre arm rests all lift up, so on a row of 4 seats, you can lift them all up and lie down. PE seats have unmovable armrests so you can't stretch out.

The flight I took back from the UK last week was practically empty, I believe there were about 60 of us in economy, we each got a row to ourselves, and were probably more comfortable than those in PE.

This is the only picture of PE on the LHR 744 that I have:
