I've read somewhere that it's best to pack your wedding dress in hand luggage in case it get's lost en-route.

As we're not flying UC but PE we are not entitled to take a suit carrier on-board.

If I were to risk it and pack my fiancee's dress into a suit carrier and ask at the gate, do you think it would be possible?

Any other clever ideas on how to get a wedding dress over to BGI without overly creasing it?

From the VS webite FAQ (a really usefull source of info)

Wedding dress - How should I take a wedding dress on my flight?

If possible your garments should be packed into a seperate suitcase and marked 'Fragile Wedding Garments'. This will be placed in the hold in the aircraft. Alternatively, your garments can be taken into the cabin as long as they are packed into your hand luggage and fit into the specified weight and dimension requirements. We are unable to hang wedding garments in the Economy and Premium Economy cabins due to the CAA regulations.

(I put the bold in)

The best solution is to wear it I think. You also may then get an upgrade. [:D]

Mine travelled as my one and only piece of hand luggage. I put it in a travel box from http://www.theemptyboxcompany.co.uk and it fitted in to the overhead lockers comfortably. I didn't have any problems, but did get lots of requests for people to have a look!!
