Hi all.

I am flying on VS 601 on Dec23rd and am hoping that by getting to the airport early enough that I may be able to get an Emergency Exit seat.

Should I ask at the Virgin sales counter when I get to Heathrow, or at the Check-in desk?

Thanks for your help

Having just done this both ways on the VLVF trip, at LHR you have to request them at check in, and then go to ticketing to pay for them.

At SFO and MIA I have requested and paid for them at check in.

At SFO there were two people next to us - we were at the PE check in and they were at ticketing. We were sold our exit seats. They also asked for exit rows, but were told that they would have to go to the back of the economy queue, as exit row requests were not dealt with at ticketing.

I felt very sorry for them, as they had been waiting for ages, well before check in opened, and by the time they were refused, there was a very long economy queue. [xx(]

For two of the six Economy legs I've had this year, I've been given a bulkhead seat (in row 21), which offers loads of legroom and foldaway IFE screens, at no extra cost!

One was LGW to Vegas, with one travelling partner. The other was MCO to LGW, with two travelling partners. Strangely, on the other legs of both trips, we were told they were for disabled pax only, or that they simply weren't available.

My advice: Get there about 3 hours before departure and ask immediately at check-in whether the bulkhead seats are available. This worked for me, even when I checked in on the web and they were kind enough to change my ticket at the bag drop desk at MCO! [^]

It's clearly hit and miss, but go for it anyway.

Hi
If you're after exit row seats I would advise to get there as early as possible. Bear in mind the £50 charge / $75 charge per leg.

I would avoid the seat right by the aisle, as you're likely to get knocked by trolleys/passing pax.

The window exit row seat is at no extra charge, however I believe they no longer offer this seat unless there's someone else travelling with you paying the £50 for the adjacent seat.

if travelling in a 747,go for the row by the galley, rather than the toilets, as this is less annoying.

I had 49C (exit row next to the galley) on my recent G-VWOW trip back from LHR. Unfortunately, my long legs became quite the burden for the flight attendants negotiating the trolleys.

I set mine up at checkin at LHR, then went to the VS ticketing desk to pay for it. As others have said, I was told the window is only available if you are a couple, as seats A/B (and also on the other side) are offered as a buy one get one free for couples.

Also as previously stated, bulkheads are not charged, but I checked in almost 5 hours before departure and bulkheads were already reserved, so you'd probably have to be mighty early.
