Whilst the excess charge it a lot, it's only fair - you are only entitled to 20kg so anything over has to be paid for.

Don't forget on the weight allowance routes there's a lot of cargo on board unlike the piece routes. It all adds up!

The same principle applies whether there aircraft if full or empty - You only get what you pay for.

------
And a silver card in UC - you will get the UC allownce.
-------
And the pax saying about UC labels - VS don't employ someone to stand out the back and pull the bags off that have UC/Premium tags on them. All the info about which bin your bag will be put in is on the barcoded label.

There's a simple check in entry for gold card holders to ensure the bag goes in the upper class bin. So long as this is followed, it would only be for cosmetic reasons UC tags are put on.

While that makes perfect sense, it doesn't explain why the two times (coming from the US to the UK) my Upper tags have been left off for whatever reason, my bags have NOT come out with the rest of the upper baggage. The last time, it was one of the last off. The only difference between mine and the rest of my group's in this case was that it was missing an Upper tag.

Then i would say the check in agent hasn't bothered to tell the system to put your bags in the UC bin. Next time just say

"Can you make sure they go in the UC bin it didn't happen last time"

with a smile of course ;)

VS SERIOUSLY does not have someone standing around looking for bags with tags on. It's all automated - machine punching bags at 60mph into the correct bin and such things. That's why if somethings fragile, never ever get it sent down the baggage belt.

Hi and welcome!

In my case (don't remember if this was on this thread or not) I was actually complaining about the ground staff chasing my bag down to REMOVE the UC tag as I as Au flying PE ;) on the grounds it would "confuse the automated system and I might lose my baggage".

Looking forward to more views from the inside.

We're emigrating to Australia and are planning on taking extra luggage.

To avoid teh excess baggage charges we're making use of Virgin's Unaccompanied Baggage service.
it works out lots cheaper than excess baggage, if you have >100 kg to move it's priced at under £4/kg.

I also told the premier team that we're emigrating, unlike some other airlines Virgin don't double your baggage allowance but they may do us a favour...

Cheers,

Lou
