FC reward booking question

Just read the T&C's of Flying Club. Am I reading it right in that if I book a reward flight using miles & cancel over 24hrs from departure, I get all the miles credited back & the taxes/fees/charges, less a £30 cancellation fee?

I am sure at one time different levels of FC membership got different percentages of miles credited back. (Think Gold was 100%, Silver 75% etc).

From Paragraph 4.2.1 of FC T&C's....
Once tickets for a Reward Booking are issued, no name changes are allowed. If for any reason a flight Reward is cancelled by the Member outside 24 hours of departure, 100% of the Miles will be re-credited to the Member’s account. A cancellation fee of £30 per person for changes to flights originating in the UK, US$50 per person for changes to flights originating in the US or local currency equivalent of US$50 per person for changes to flights originating in any other region will apply.

It makes no specific mention of the taxes/fees/charges. Does anyone on here know for sure what the situation is?

i had to cancel our reward flights in jan 2015 due to mrs sungod's op, this was a couple of weeks before flight date

i called flying club and they said they could ok refund of points plus taxes/fees but there'd by a 30 pound/head charge, however if i sent in a copy of the hospital admission record they'd waive that too (and they did)

miles were back in my account very shortly afterwards, it took much longer for the money to be credited back (in this case, to my amex card)

sungod - thanks for the reply. That is exactly the info I wanted to hear. We have a friend who may want to join us on holiday but is unsure - if I can nab a flight for him with only a potential £30 loss if cancelled then that is worth the risk.

Just tried to book a reward flight for MAN-MCO-MAN there is zero availability on any day in both November & December. A couple of days ago, about half of the dates in both months were available. I fail to believe the limited quantity of G fares has sold out in such a short space of time, on every day of both months.

Maybe I just need to wait for the VS IT hamster to be fed (or replaced if it's died) so the wheel powering the server starts to work again!

Have just called Flying Club - even they don't know what has happened to the UC availability.

A couple of days before I booked, over half of the dates had availability in UC to/from MAN to MCO in November. Now there is nothing at all - most days are Economy only with a few PE dates available. Looking on Expertflyer the flights on our preferred dates are not full - showing as 9's in all UC fare buckets & 9's in all but the Z bucket on the return (which is showing as 7). This is travelling outside of October half term & inbound to the UK before Thanksgiving - I would expect flights TO the USA to be like hens teeth in the run-up to Thanksgiving.

They did confirm that I can cancel my existing ticket for just a £30 fee & get all the miles & taxes/fees/charges back (less the £30, obviously). So I guess it is a case of toss the coin and decide whether to book my friend on PE out / EC in on the same flights & wait, fingers crossed, that UC seats become available, or look at alternate dates.

I know it's often asked on here, but what are the best time(s) to look for the elusive G fares? I am fairly nocturnal at times, so being up at a time when the VS IT hamster is being awoken for the day in another continent is not a problem.
