Dear Departure Lounge Forum

I am excited to say that I have just booked (for my wife and I) a 4 day trip to New York as a surprise. I don’t intend to tell her until we pull in through the DTCI and this will be our first trip with Virgin.

We are flying Upper Class (both ways) from LHR to JFK. Our outbound flight is V003 and return V112 (over night flight).

We were due to be flying the A340-600 out and return on the A330 but this has now been changed back to the A340-600. This is a bit disappointing because I wanted to experience both aircraft. Could it change back?

Also (just like some similar posts) can anyone recommend seats for my wife and I? I would like to sleep on the way back so preferably the quieter part of the cabin.

Thanks for your help.

Trust me, you've had a lucky escape. UC on the A330 is Virgin's weak link - at least until they refit the cabins which is due to happen sometime this year.

On the A346 the first few rows are the quietest and you want to be on the K side for added privacy. Not 2K - a bit too close to the loo - but two next to each other between 3K-7K would be ideal. Failing that 8A-14A on the A side, any further back and you're quite near the bar.

Could it change back to an A330? Potentially yes but most likely no. I think it's changed because the final few 747s have left the LHR fleet sooner than planned so they've been reshuffling the pack.
