I was looking at flights in mid-March and noticed that VS46 (LHR-JFK) was using a 747 for several days. From what I recall, I thought 747 was only operating out of Gatwick? Are the 747s being flown to JFK the newly refitted ones? Also, for some reason I thought the last 747 flight to JFK was roughly a year ago.

There's a a thread here on the same topic. I too thought the NYC routes had seen their last 747 but presumably the aircraft that was destined for LGW / MAN reconfiguration is being pressed into service to cover some late deliveries of 787?

BIG has now disappeared from Cambridge Airport (where she was being stored) - so perhaps she is filling in at LHR for a few days/weeks until re-fit and transfer to LGW.

Lightly fuelled, that would have been a 'sporty' take off. Would have liked to have seen that.

Is G-VROC still doing LGW routes this month as well? My VS44 on 27/3 is still showing LHR 744 config so I'm assuming she's still allocated for it.

I'd say - every last inch of the runway no doubt...! There are 2 great vantage points at either end of the runway too for whoever was able to witness it!

Found this on Youtube, looked like a decent take off!

BA have used Cambridge airport on and off for maintenance of 747's for years so 747's at Cambridge aren't a new thing and it's never caused any problems. Good to watch them land and take-off as you can get quite close!
