Just had a call from Flying Club, ostensibly to offer help with the best way of us using our miles. We (the royal we) spoke to them for quite a while - largely talking about why we have pretty much moved away from VS in recent years and how disappointed and dismayed at how things have changed. The agent said that our views are what she’s hearing over and over! No surprise there then.

Anyone else had a similar call? I’m guessing they’re identifying flying club member who haven’t flown on VS recently, but be interested to know if any of you have had a call like this. I know some of you have also gone to th Dark Side at times!

Let’s be honest, the grass may seem greener on the other side but ALL airlines are caught in a race to the bottom. Margins are notoriously small and shareholders demand higher profits at the same time as passengers demand lower fares.

It’s been interesting to see posters complaining recently about the lack of sub-£1500 sale fares in J, whereas 5 years ago £2500 or more was the norm in UC to places like Florida. If we keep demanding ever lower fares, something has to give.

And it’s certainly not just VS cutting costs. Alex Cruz is pretty much the devil incarnate for many BA FFs, and even the much-lauded ME3 are starting to make cuts - only this week Emirates has announced no more CDCs on reward bookings.
