Hi, I’m looking for advice.

In those good old days! I used to book flights and upgrade them using credit card vouchers, but the Flying Club has changed so much since I last made a booking.

I want to book two seats to Las Vegas for next April. I might return from Atlanta as we want to make a stop in Memphis (using internal flights).

I’m a silver member until August.

I have two credit card vouchers, one of which needs to be used by October.

I haven’t accrued many points in the past year, but I got another voucher after spending £20k. I don’t have enough points for two reward flights.

In the past, I’d book two PE seats using points and then upgrade with vouchers. Nice and simple.

So if I book two PE seats with cash, can I use my vouchers to upgrade the fares and how is that worked out.
They talk about cc voucher being worth either 75k or 150k in points . What’s that about.

2 x PE to Las Vegas & back via Atlanta will be £3198 cash and I’d like to upgrade to UC with vouchers?

(For info 2 x Upper Class Z fares = £5778)

PE reward fare = 332,000 points + £1198 fees etc which we do not have.

Any offers of advice would be very welcome, thanks.

Yes you can pay in cash for PE and use the vouchers to upgrade, as you are silver the vouchers are worth 150k each (only 75k for red)

If you’re paying cash the price in points to upgrade will be the price quoted in UC for your date minus the saver price for your route. I’ve found it really difficult to find reasonable prices for UC in vegas Mar-Sep but if you’re flexible with dates you might find something. There’s some dates in October 88k return in UC for example

You also need to fly by before the expiry date on the vouchers, I think you used to just have to book before the expiry date and fly later but they have changed it with the new program. I got caught out and lost one!!

Can the return be after the expiry? Or do you have to have taken the full trip now? I’m still deciding when I want to trigger my voucher this year

Just to say thanks for your replies.

I’m probably being very thick here but I just don’t understand this reward voucher (or whatever the thing is being called).
So the voucher now has points value and this is even different based on ‘status’. So a lowly red member who has regularly used their credit card to accrue points over the year, now gets penalised coz they’re not silver or higher.

So I know how much in cash my PE fares in April will cost. It’s got to be cash as we have very little points on our account.
What I don’t understand is how to use the voucher.
How many points are needed to go from PE to UC then? Do I need to do a dummy booking to find out how many points are required for a PE reward fare. Then get a quote of an UC reward. Then does that difference show how many points are required to upgrade using a voucher?
I then wonder if my voucher valued 150k, will cover two one way upgrades?
I also assume there still needs to be an availability in UC to upgrade like before?

I now know one of my hard earned voucher will be obsolete.

I’ve re-read numerous old posts all relating to the use of the credit card voucher and I think a lot of people are confused. A nice clear layout matrix on how it operates these days would be helpful.

If anyone has any further advice or info I would be most appreciative as it will give me some expectations when I call the flying club to book our flights.
