Frequent flying is no guarantee of fearless flying! Why not let us know how you feel - it'll make interesting reading to see how many of us do it because we haveto!

So how does flying make YOU feel?

You need to add "So excited i can't wait to get on board and feel the thrust" of the 4 big jets that is:D

I hate it, but I have to fly to get to Disney[8D], but if Virgin don't fly there I don't either. This is where Virgin are at their absolute best, they are wonderful to me, look after me from check in to kissing the ground in MCO. They also love me as I don't eat or drink, alcohol, for the entire flight, maybe thats why we were moved from PE to first both ways in April:D, I,m cheap, in the nicest possible way!. Mr Boo made up for me though.:D But I am so frightened that I can do nothing but sit there with my valium, I would love to be like most of the rest of you and enjoy the whole thing. We always fly PE as its a lot quieter up top and has a bit more space.

I have done their Fear of Flying course which was very good but you need to fly soon after for it to really work, and you cant always do that. I would love to be like the rest of you, but its something I just have to put up with.

I suppose I don't do it because I have to, but if I let the fear beat me I wouldn't go anywhere.

Its all a big Buzz for me, I just love flying, go to Orlando every year and I look forward to the flying just as much as the roller coasters when i get there, i even like the journey home.

the taking off bit just blows my mind, planes are fab.

Its 296 days to my next flight to Orlando:D in PE cause I am treating my mum and dad, best mate and 6 year old nephew, 5 UP tickets was a bit much for me for this trip.

However, guess what my best mate suprised me yesterday with a UCS
flight to vegas from Gatwick:Dand its only 63 days to go.

Now I will get my silver card back gucci or what and triple miles
so my 2006 ucs is lookin good too.

I've found that a moderate skinful prior to boarding calms the nerves somewhat...

But I think the ONLY way to overcome a fear of flying is to become an obsessive compulsive collector of flying club miles and tier points. Then nothing but nothing will stop you getting on a plane to keep your silver or gold...:)

Am I right?

I've been flying long haul since I was 6..been around the world a few times..flown on everything from a DC-3 island hoping to concorde (didnt like the seats in that thing either and the bathroom was to small to do anything in [}:)] ) and only once maybe 3 years ago over Texas did I get scared..just sat there and thought this isn't right..being 30k ft up in a metal tube..put on my walkman..turn on some metalica and turned the volume to 11..drown out those bad thoughts..

Due to an incident on a plane during childhood i used to get nervous about landings, then I got to talk to a friends dad who turned out to be a 744 driver for BA..once he explained to me that landing is way safer (due to fuel load and weight) than take-off I now fly with my mind at ease...

Oh yeah a couple of jack and cokes help as well

I am fine on board unless there is the slightest turbulence... then I get very nervous. I know all the stats about how safe it is and how planes can take several times the load expected in even severe turbulence, but that doesn't seem to help at all.

I do find a few G&Ts help! In fact, last UC flight I was on, I was aked to return to my seat as the seatbelt sign was in due to severe turbulence. I was enjoying the bar so much that I didn't notice the sign or the turbulence! [xx(]

v8gaz

Agree the g & T's help to start with. :D

However I am lucky that in spite of one absolutely horrendous trip on a Viscount in the Oman - v bad electrical storm when I actually asked the guy up there to end it all, I still love flying. Can still get a bit twitchy in turbulence especially on the smaller aircraft like trislanders, but in fact I like to have a bit of turbulence to show that I am actually flying.

I do like to have four big engines keeping me up there, they make me feel much more comfortable.

I am getting flying withdrawal symptoms at the moment, haven't been on a plance since Christmas! [:(]

Good poll!

It is surprising how many are nervous flyers.

Here in the U.S. the statistic is something like 1 in 10 folks on the ground and 1 in 6 folks on the plane have some level of Flight Anxiety.

I am a former fearful flyer myself, and started a FREE website for information and support. Feel free to visit.

Im with Stephen... cant wait to feel the thrust of the 4 engines (or even two if we go that way ? )

Generally I'm fine and can't wait to get going but in strong turbulence (particularly over water) I get slightly anxious. However, I don't feel so comfortable flying long-haul on twinjets - mainly over water again.
A little VS UCS magic can cure a lot!:D;)[y]

Flying is a necessary evil for someone with a love of travel (and a girlfriend on the other side of the world!).
As an Engineer I sit on a plane thinking about how much could go wrong, but I also think about how much is in place to stop it going wrong.

After all, that's why planes have two wings :D .... isn't it [:?][:$]

Both female partners of mine have been very nervous flyers! So much so that it does tend to freak me out a bit in case they throw a wobbler on the aircraft, once they seem relaxed then I'm ok. :-)

I'm with v8gaz, everything is fine until there is a bit of turbulence, I also don't really like any sharp banking.
