Hi phantomtwin and welcome to V-Flyer

As far as we know the Sleep Suit is still there. There is no mention of it being withdrawn.

With regard to the transit arrangements in HKG, if you use the search button at the top you will find some reports on the LHR-HKG-SYD route.

When are you travelling? My son and I are heading out there in just two weeks time :D

Welcome phantomtwin!

Some words of encouragement from me...

I don't know about the transit arrangements but, I had previously thought there was NO WAY I could fly London - Sydney in one hit, so to speak. After flying UCS to HK and getting 6+ hours of solid kip I can honestly say I was more than ready for the additional 8 hours after the stop at Chep lap Kok but, sadly didn't do it!

Enjoy!

Hi Honey Lamb & JAT74L

thanks for the speedy reply -

HL - I'll do as you suggest and chk out the route comments - (still finding my way around the site)

Not flying till 29/12 - and have to say not looking forward to 23 hours in the air - even if it is in UC! - still it will be worth it when I get there!

JAT74L - how come you did'nt do the onward leg - maybe I mis read your post - but at least you made me feel more positive about the first leg!

cheers

Aer John (my son) and I are doing the trip in two weeks time. However we are stopping over in HKG so we won't be able to give you the lowdown on doing the trip in one fell swoop as it were.

JAT74L was not travelling on to SYD so couldn't comment further

Ok so i'v just read through all seven pages of the thread - I'm really not liking the sounds of this new "Snooze Pack". They know which is the most popular kit they have offered in the past, the OB was way down the list so what do they do? Create something even more rubbish! I'm sorry a cardboard envelope just doesn't cut it!

Also one question about something I can't work out. Several times a sewing kit has been referred too. Now unless it is a very specia one don't you normally require a needle to sew? One of those sharp pointy objects your not allowed to carry onboard anymore.

This all sounds very disappointing[n]

I'm still ironing MrG's brown/green hankies from a previous ammenity kit some years back and using the Virgin Vie moisturiser and lip balms when away on short trips.

I don't fly UC that often, so having a more luxurious kit than in PE would be a nice change. Still, I guess it is only a small part of the flight. I shall make a point of asking for a tooth brush and moisturiser when I fly UC to SFO in August[y]

Virgin pen count: 150! Obviously a collection that won't be added to in the near future;)

This my first post and I have been reading this thread with interest. I am collector of kits. Did you know that you now get a better kit on First Great Western trains than on Virgin! FGW give them out on the sleeper service. I think that compared to the BA 1st kit (Anya Hindmarch) and BA J class (Molton Brown) this is a really bad move. On BA 1st they give you a nice bag with a few basics in a pouch. As and when you need them you have extra pouches depending on the items you need. Surely this is a better way to go. For the Pax they get a nice bag to take away and for BA they only give out what they need - if I was on board I would take all the pouches (coz I collect them!!).

Lets hope they come a sensible decision soon

Not that VS use us, but you never know, if we can get this thread to page numbers like the GNF maybe change will be made.
How long was GNF in service on the flights they binned it?

Also, purely on the container...wasn't the zip pencil case probably much cheaper to manufacture than the OB kit.

Anyway sorry for the random , muddled post :)

I think we are only about 50% of the way to the GNF thread length, although maybe this post will tip it over to 9 pages.....

Flying LHR to NRT next month - assuming new amenity kit, what can I ask for - toothbrush, lip balm, sewing kit, collar stiffners, luggage label? Anything else?

Will I be allowed to ask for more than one thing (flying on a G ticket, upgraded with miles)?

Many thanks in advance.

I would like to see what these optional extras are.

From personal experience though, last time I flew Upper on the way back most people LEFT there OB bags half used on their seats.

Understandably that means on a return trip the Eastbound bag was pretty much a waste of money for VA, so why not put a nice bag on the list of OPTIONS as well. This would mean only one bag required for only those pax who wanted one therefore reducing cost, waste and everyones happy.

Hi,

I thought I would just post this following a return flight back on UC from Dubai-LHW yesterday.

I really feel that the service in UC has gone down over the past year, the latest of which is the snooze (scrooge packs!).

I received my socks, eye patch, and eye plugs in the cardboard envelope on my seat. I asked for some toothpaste and brush... after 20 mins they found one! I asked if there was anything else available and they could not give me a list of anything! This is minor, but the socks also changed from the UC flight out... the socks on the way out had red toes and heels with Upper Class printed on them... the way back, purple and cheaper quality... is this the way it is going?!

What else...

The first option of main course for lunch (fish) was unavailable, even though I was in row 3 and one of the first to be served!

I asked if they had any snacks about 3 hours into the flight, they had run out of crisps etc, but could get some strange pretzels (their words!) if I really wanted! Other than that a few bendicks mints!

Arrivals lounge in LHW (always good), this closes at 1pm, useful when your flight arrives at 2pm!

Now good feedback...

Once again the Clubhouse at LHW is fantastic... but dont ruin it Virgin by dropping everything else!!!

PS - Does anyone actually know what you are supposed to be able to ask for in addition to the new snooze packs?!

Don't get us started again. Please!!!!! ;)
And they've only got[countdown]September 27, 2006 10:55:00 AM[/countdown]to give back the cufflinks, before I vow never to fly UC again!

LHR/LHR, Eye patch/eye shades, doesn't really matter does it so long as we all know what was meant? It was an easily intelligible post, so I wouldn't throw too many stones GJ ;)

APL1974 - I think that 1300 has always been the closing time for the arrivals lounge. Quite a few people here think it's too early, but at least that would be one consist bit between your flights.

Sorry APL1974, looks like you've caught some of us in "one of those moods" today!
I guess you've been lurking here for a while, and have maybe noted some of our views as to the downwards spiral of UC service. Your recent experience is of course most welcome here, and will add to the ongoing debate.
And as the anglo half of an Anglo-Chinese partnership I will of course welcome the opening of a new VS route to china ;)

I think 13:00 really bad. I would have thought they would arrange enough staff to cover the later arrivals especially the LAX flight.

Thanks everyone for you posts... I think the 'clever ones' (excluding GJ that is) knew that I was talking about Heathrow, not China, but hey if they went to China that would be a great route! Sign me up.

Eye plugs.. well that is just a plain mistake, but hey I dont use them anyway! :D Must be the jetlag ;)

Must add... the one thing that made me smile on the way out with VA was the sick bags with 'We don't want to chuck in your hands' referring to the Virgin Poker or Casino site! :D

Just to get back on (lengthy) topic it appears that some passengers were still getting Amenity kits at the end of July. See Blevins' report LGW - MBJ. I guess they could have been on the way out rather than on the way back though.
