I really feel miffed about the whole thing![n]

Now that is a very sensible idea.

Nice pencil case style holder (thinking the pre-OB Virgin one) with the following: Socks, Eyeshades, Moisteriser, Ear plugs, Toothbrush & paste, Polo's, pen and a small welcome card detailing a list of extras available on request. All items in the kit available on request for those regulars who only want one or two of the items. In the extras i'd include a good range of mini Virgin Vie skin care products, combs, brushes, pencils, notepads, emry boards, facial wipes etc.

Goodnews, VS are listening to Crew feedback and Customer feedback.

They are looking into the new kit and how it can be improved.

At the risk of being ridiculed, I am going to come off the fence and say that I think the new pack has a nugget of a good idea in. Make it a decent package rather than an envelope, put the essentials in and add a small note saying what extras you can request at it would be fine with me. A range of packages would be great - Y has the big and little packs. So maybe we could have a laundry bag, a pencil case, a travel wallet, knick-knacks bag, etc. Which rotate between flights so regulars have a chance of something they have not got before.

At the end of a VS flight I always have a real mental fight. On the one hand I don't want to throw the pack away as it would be a total waste. On the other hand I have loads of them kicking round at home, my friends and family all have them already, and so what do I need with more junk.

I understand the idea regarding packaging, Jeremy, but I would value consistency -- something sorely lack in the VS J product. I do think that a BAg style set of essentials with a card detailing the extras would be a reasonable approach, as long as (a) the essentials include a toothbrush/paste and pen, and (b) the extras included moisturiser, lip balm and eye gel.

I forgot to add. I would not re-instate the gifts. I only need so many cufflinks, the keyfobs break and the last thing I want to do is look at myself in a mirror. The quality that one could reasonably expect from a freebee is not high enough to make them desirable to me.

Aww sailor I am sure you look lovely in the Vanity Mirror[:o)]

A list of Virgin Vie free samples is a brill idea, prehaps a little box like before and you choose the three products that fit in to it.

I think the OB kits where more size than substance, but those zipped pencil case things were really good, not too big and very usefull for other things.

Just thought I would add, it might be a good idea if those braining storming accountants thought of this idea,

"stop making it so obvious that you think your UCS passengers are
not worth the extra expence than those in Economy" or your customers might start thinking UCS fares or Virgin are not worth the expence or worthy of our loyalty.

Ho hum, such a long list of comments to wade through, but very interesting all the same. Now I have read all the comments, I think I have earned a reply spot :D

I flew last week in UC, and was frankly shocked by the amenity pack. Now I happen to agree with some of the earlier comments about the need for an amenity pack by some, at least in part. I also agree about the erosion of service many feel this may be leading to.

I like the idea of the 'pick and mix', but I think we have to remember that the cabin crew, especially at the beginning of a flight, are extremely busy, and going round personalising amenity packs is not a good use of their time. However, leaving products on display to 'help yourself' is of course open to abuse. I like the idea of customising the packs though, and think an 'essentials' starting pack is a great idea. I honestly don't know the best way of distributing the extras - maybe the IFBT when checking on treatments could have a small basket? Though I think they have plenty to do as well!

Going back to why I was shocked... It seems to me that in the last couple of years, the ticket costs have gone up (fuel costs, yada yada) but many are complaining of decreasing service. I am obviously fortunate to have had excellent flights on all my VS trips, but I did feel very disappointed in the amenity pack, especially as coming back in PE, I felt I got a better pack - at least one you (well, the kids actually) could re-use. I actually liked the OB packs - they made great travel wallets, but the Vie kits were the best.

You mean save for the CH (ex LHR, LGW), space, suites, food, bar and service ? :)

I do agree though that the changes to the amenity kit are pointless penny pinching and not good business...

Would it not be possible to custom-order your kit at the time of booking, check-in or OLCI to get what you actually want, although it would probably be a good idea to keep some extras on board just in case?;)

Woeful! That's the only word I could find to describe the Scrooge Pack! If Ryanair did amenity kits, this is what it would be like. [V] A pair of socks, an eyemask, ear plugs and a cheap biro thaqt blobbed all over me landing card [:(!] In the bathroom was a basket containing the other things. In my bathroom there was toothpaste but no toothbrush and I had a genteel argument with the crew member who insisted they were there. At least I knew to ask. How many didn't? Oh, and I didn't see the moisturiser or lip balm but Aer John got samples. The lip balm is chocolate flavoured and awful and the moisturiser is Nivea. Need I say more? [V][V][V]

If they want to move away from Vie for skincare products thats cool, there are plenty of other companies out there. But surely wouldn't they be better going for a premium brand to go in their premium cabin? Dermalogica, Elemis (even though i don't like them), or how about Cowshed?

OMG if I was in Virgin marketing and saw those on EBay I would be so embarrased. What a pathetic advertisment they are.

I think I would ask the FA to run down to EC and get me one of theirs at least the large EC bags are usefull.

Can we assume the free iKid rucksacks are still on offer in EC too whilst UCS get handed that sad plastic bag or paper envelope.

The cabin crew must feel awful

In my mind before you know it the blind fold and ear plugs will be put into the socks and left on the seat :D I'm off to Air New Zealand with the best packs (including polos :D) in the industry

The ebay pack two is a bonus one - it comes with a toothbrush already.

If they want a quick fix then while the rest of the crew are busy preping the cabin why can't the IFBT when she does the rounds do so with a little basket of things and instead of an envelope you have a little paper carry bag that you can take your things from the basket and then feel all posh and UC!!!

I'm speechless.

Please, somebody tell me that the crew don't have the embarrasment (/ humiliation) of giving out a clear plastic bag like that to passengers paying £1,000's for tickets. The Y kit is so much better!

That is just appauling, I'd seen photos of the envelope before but that has really shocked me. I can't believe that Virgin managed to get it so completely and utterly wrong!!

They have got to rectify that, and soon!
