Hello all,

I've booked on flights to DC (21st December) and back (4th January). Both flights are listed as 787-9 flights but the seat map is unavailable.

Are other 787 flyers seeing a seat map?

Anyone know why the ram air turbine was out in that video? Do they always test them on the first flight?
(If you're wondering ... look for the little propeller spinning away under the fuselage, just behind the right wing - generates power in case of an engine failure)

RAT has completely failed on many 787-9 tests, Boeing have until end of this year to redesign and fix, so either new component fitted and undergoing test or further testing of existing RAT

FAA have agreed that the 787-9 can fly commercially [until end of this year latest] with a faulty RAT, as it would need numerous failures of other systems before the aircraft is endangered

Ha. I've just watched the Al Jazeera documentary on the 787. My other half refuses to entertain ever stepping on board one. I'm inclined to agree.

Can I point you to a 787 blog giving another side to the story.

In fairness, I think we were a little jittery about the 787 before Al Jazeera came out with their documentary. They do seem to "have it in for Boeing" somewhat.
But I think with the battery issues and then the seeming litany of other events (bits falling off Air India 787s, smouldering transponders on Ethiopian 787s, etc etc) - I'm just not quite ready to step on board just yet!

Aircraft will be operating on the Delhi route from the start of the S15 timetable.

http://airlineroute.net/2014/09/25/vs-del-s15/

So if you want to catch a 787-9 over the winter time table it'll be progressively introduced on to BOS, IAD, one of the Newark flights and the VS3/4 JFK rotations.

Then for S15 it looks like it'll stay on those routes + DEL at this stage.

I watched that video too and thus did some more digging and fact-checking. The main issue that documentary had was with the South Carolina (Charleston) building plant.

I checked the 787 orderes & deliveries and ALL of Virgin Atlantic's 787-9s are being built in Everett, WA.... NOT Charleston, SC! Whoever negotiated this deal with Boeing from VS probably told Boeing that all of VS planes must be made in Everett. ;)

Looking through the list, all of VS 787-9 planes is scheduled to be built in Everett. I feel safer knowing that.

This is the link I used to look at which 787s are built in Everett & which ones in Charleston:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub ... utput=html

I looked at Air India and the recent ones seem to be made in Charleston. I understand Boeing has the same testing procedures in both Everett & Charleston but it seems to me the employees in Everett are more experienced and judging from the al-jazeera video, the employees in SC don't seem that motivated.

I don't want to worry you but the aft fuselage is manufactured and assembled in Boeing’s South Carolina factory.

Unsurprisingly, the 787 page on VS website, still shows its planned routes to Narita and Cape Town....

Flown on quite a few 787's now, before and after the grounding, and they're generally fine, other than being a little tight in Y.
