There by meaning it can be re-used and the bean counters can chalk it up as a win [:I] Don't do it - take it off the plane and junk it in the first bin you see [}:)]

Ah, even better! I would say you could leave a note with the torn pack, but alas there isn't a pen [}:)]

The pens available from the "extras" disintegrate when you try and write with them too, so you're buggered there.

I use the cardboard envelope for hiding chocolates and suet...although all the fat pax and flight crew constantly try to steal it from me.

Any more feedback on the revamp or rethink of this feeble product?
(I do think LGW stands the chance of not being affected immediately but eventually as with everything LGW)

after reading all these posts in the past couple of weeks, we had some tidying of the house to do.

well came across some of the 'old packs' from UC - and been using the old spongy ear plugs for past two weeks (have a few of the amenity packs!!) and have slept a lot better especially with the windows being open with the heat and everything...

and also came across some polo mints!![:p]

but they were out of date [:(]- but still ate them! :D

i'm sure over the years all the amenity packs, whether economy or UC have diminished in value - wouldnt mind if the price reflected this or additional service increased tho, but dont think thats happened.

used to work for BA in their catering purchasing department, and I know these things cost a lot more than you might think tho.....

Risible. That's what I think of the new 'amenity **it'. I was almost offended. And also told to 'write in'. My BF summed it up by saying 'we got more in PE'.

Anyone who is unhappy should write in. The more people that do so the quicker we might make a difference. Personally, i'd rather have a 'Y' kit too now!

I spoke to Customer Relations after my recent trip to Dubai to complain about how bad they were - especially as the IFBT Lady and the FSM actually asked me to complain directly to the Premier Team because they were embarrased about handing them out and about the level of complaints and snide comments people were making about them.

In my opinion they are a bit of a joke and look cheap and tacky and you get more in Economy. They also create more work for the IFBT and other cabin crew when passengers then proceed to request individuals items throughout the flight which just seems silly to me - at least they should maybe have the additional items in a display cabinet at the bar etc for passengers to help themselves to as necessary (given there is nearly always a member of crew around the bar am sure passengers wouldnt abuse this option). Silly things like the lack of pen and them not containting a change for children envelope annoyed me and Customer Relations did seem generally apologetic about the whole thing but claim they had done lots of market testing first before rolling them out (although I query who they market tested these thing with)!

Anyway they intonated that they may consider changing them again if lots of passengers feel that strongly about them and would keep me informed! Will let you know if I ever hear anything back!

On tonight's VS201 SYD-HKG the IFBT handed out toothbrushes and toothpaste along with the Scrooge Packs. I later noticed a whole lot of EC amenity kits being handed out and wondered if there was a plethora of V-Flyers on board adhering to the instruction to request them. However the CSS told us they had run out of Scrooge Packs and had to bring extras in from EC. I reckon they had the better option [V]

Has anyone heard any news if /when they will be replaced. I read that this was under discussion. Also what are they currently giving out from both LGW and LHR?

They are being reviewed... but still the best thing you can do if feeling aggrieved is officially complain.

I still think the initial idea was a good one... provide a decent basic amenity kit and offer 'extras' which would tailor this kit to each individual traveller. Unfortunately the delivery of this idea simply hasn't worked... and whats offered is clearly not working.

Customer surveys have provided the reasoning behind all of this. They tend to say (not just for VS but for most airlines) that Business class passengers want sleep... would prefer to eat in the lounge and be left to sleep on board... and don't like fuss.

The problem is despite what people say in surveys, in reality any degradation of service is noticed, and in reality even if you invest millions in a fantastic lounge and install possibly the best bed/seats in the industry (talking hypothetically here of course!) but remove the little touches, passengers notice whats gone and see this as a reduction in overall service quality.

So any airline needs to take every passenger survey with a pinch of salt and when new products are trialed listen very carefully to feedback and be quick to respond.

So.. again, if you do feel the new packs are not up to your expectations... certainly make a formal complaint to customer relations... thats the most constructive way of getting change.

There are allot of good product developments coming at VS this year.. some already announced (new Ycl seats and standardisation of pitch in Ycl on the airbus fleet... new Wcl seats etc) and plenty more that are still on the 'confidential' list... some of which I am quite excited about and will help restore a bit of the Virgin gloss.

In the meantime, thanks for the MANY pseudonyms for the Snooze Packs you've given above... they've livened up some internal meetings in Crawley no end!

Thx for the update V-Ben, and for wetting out appettite on the new stuff!

Out of interest how are such major product changes trialed?

Well that would depend from product to product... the obvious ones, say the new wcl seats... trialled on board one or two aircraft/routes first... and the final seat design is slightly different from those on board according to the feedback.... other new products are simply introduced across the fleet and feedback then gained and changes then made. Other products tested on 'focus groups' on the ground.

Before I worked for VS I actually took part in allot of BA pre-introduction testing from the passenger side... as an elite BA exec member I took part in product testing for new Ycl euro seats (that weren't introduced thank god)... food (that was unfortunately) and IFE menus (no idea what happened to this).
They bussed us to a secret hangar at LHR and into an aircraft mock-up and gave us an entire 'pretend' flight.

At Cathay Pacific, as staff we trialled the new Fcl and Jcl seats in Toulouse and Cardiff at the factories... litterally spending the nights sleeping on them... seemed daft to me... felt NOTHING like the real flying experience!

LMAO [oo]

Well I havn't posted my return trip report yet just this one because it's going to be a long one,not because of the flight itself (which was great) but because of a little group meeting some of us pax had in the Maxjet lounge.

I was wearing my RBS cap and it seemed to get a little attention [y]guess people need something to talk about at STN on a sunday morning.Anyways it turned out there were a few people who fly VS UC pretty regularly and had had enough, the new non-amenity pack being the straw that broke the camels back. This lady used to fly weekly LHR-JFK in UC,I did give her a VF card and with any luck she will drop by,but just to list her gripes.

Service has gone to hell, food is bad, value (her company pays for her tickets but she still feels that there should be some value)and lastly the amenity pack.

Now honestly I was surprised she mentioned the amenity pack but it seems it hit a nerve with her,if only because she felt that because she was flying in UC the pack should be the best VS has to offer. As has been pointed out on here she did say that while the CH is great she only spends an hour there and 8 hrs on the plane.

Just as a last note this was her first flight on Maxjet and as we were walking down the jetway she was leaving a voice mail to the person that run's her companies travel department asking to be booked on them from now on.

Now I am not the most frequent flier here,at least not long haul, but it does seem to me that if VS keep's shooting itself in the foot rough times will be ahead as we start to see more FF's heading to other airlines.VS needs to understand that people spend more time in the plane than on the ground.

Wow,nice little rant [:I]

Tooth brush and paste was handed out to all passengers on my flight yesterday. It was in a clear plastic packet and was of pretty average quality. Looked very tacky with all the passengers havign them on their drinks tables!

Blimey. Flying tomorrow morning to Cuba in UC and sat here thinking this is actually bothering me! Turns out that I do place considerable value on the way the little things add together to make a total experience of feeling somewhat special when travelling UC.

Indeed, without wanting to sound over dramatic, but I realise it does, this is spoiling my looking forward to things. Therefore, it seems to me that it might be appropriate for me and perhaps others to make a pre-emptive complaint to VA, as the impact of their change is already having a negative impact on me! Perhaps I've just become a big girl!!!

.. also did I read it correctly that toothpaste is one of the extras that needs to be requested???? They have to be kiddin - how on earth is that an extra - it's about the only item that is absolutely essential.
