Right, lets take this back a second, back to the 14 / 15th of August. Around then, but I think a day or so before, Virgin announced on their website that they would be launching a new Good Night, Sleep Tight service. And that it was to allow J pax to get to sleep nice and quick on flights leaving after 9pm.

And now here we are on the 20th August and Virgin still are not able to provide a definitive answer on what this service is.

Umm Foz, I think we're still in July - either that, or I'm extremely late for my first day at my new job (1st August) ;):D

Cheers

leisure travellers sleep on flights as well you know..

i am stunned you think you are going to be awake all the way to SYD.. and on the return, the flight from HK to London leaves at the equivalent of nearly 3am SYD time.. even I am willing to bet you'll be wanting to get straight to sleep then.

I'm not, i know I won't be. Particularly on the way back ... i'm actually looking forward to the return to see if I can get a good night sleep on a flight. Something as yet I have not been able to do. Hell, I will probably welcome the GNS service on the return from HKG.

All I want is the option to enjoy the full experience, at my leisure when I want. The whole point of the Freedom menu and one of the reasons for paying so much for the flight. That is what annoys me, the fact they are taking this option away from me ... they have significantly changed the product I booked.

I was just thinking about my last VS024 flight and that I was the first one to get to sleep (partly due to the fact that I had only been there for two days and was still pretty jet-lagged and partly due to the IFE not working) and this was a good two hours into the flight, so (at least on that flight) people aren't that keen to get to sleep.

If management are that keen for us to get to sleep quickly maybe they should just slip something in the coffee...;)

Cheers,

Start worrying when you notice the crew slipping on gas masks, a faint hissing coming from the air vents, and for some reason you're feeling...very...sleepy....

Virgin Upper Class Lite V BA

Extremely Unhappy about this.

I am travelling back to the UK on the VS24 on the 7th of October and was delighted to find out the UCS was now being offered on this route.

I have treated a friend and myself to this flight using hard earned flying club miles (Yes I was one of the lucky ones who managed to find a West Coast Reward Flight!!)

My Friend is a harden BA Club World flyer (mainly due to company policy) and I am a dedicated fan of Virgin. He has treated me to the outbound flight of BA (Lots of Frequent Flyer Reward availability!)

Having bored my friend senseless with how good Virgin is I was looking forward to this opportunity to show him what Virgin has to offer its premium passengers.

It now looks as though I am going to have to admit defeat (especially as the will be the first time I have tried BA).

Virgin have radically altered the product and I can not see my friend being won over from BA to this version of Upper Class Lite (as I have seen it aptly called in this forum)

I am very tempted to complain. But do I express my concerns to Virgin now with the hope of getting shifted to the VS08 or complain after the event.

Either way I feel Virgin have made a big mistake here, I donÕt sleep on aircraft at the best of times, but with little now in the way of distractions from the food service, this is going to be one very long flight.

Cost Cutting Gone Mad, Shame on you Virgin Atlantic.

At the end of the day I think people will be afforded choice, this may even just be a test run for a product they intend to offer when they get those huge planes, where they can properly seperate the sleepy areas from the others.

The only thing I hope is that VA don't make the mistake BA has, by way of ONLY thinking about reg business travellers with very high ratings. BA in my view has a look down upon you unless your one of our top payers which comes accross as stuffy and aloof "what you doing in upper attitude".

Always treat your premium clients well I say but keep an eye on the next generation who might intend to be moving up the front.

It was Virgins fantastic way of making me feel special that made me go from Y to J, lets hope they keep listening to all of us and not just the Goldcards.

Easy...you will be Gold before long, I can see the signs.
No going back :D

Some good points there EGG.

The majority of revenue for VS comes from its frequent / business travellers. But that doesn't mean they should ignore the rest of us who are also paying to use the services offered. And also those who are frequent users of VS products who don't like these proposed services.

Have just noticed that VA have slightly changed their home page lay out and are clearly promoting the Good New Flight under the "whats new" box and the bottom right of the screen ....... gives it a lot more visibility .....

Just so you know, Unisom is readily available in HK and US pharmacies, not sure about JNB (but will be there on Sunday so will check) .. take two of them about 20 mins before boarding and you'll sleep very well... they even work when wedged into BA's flying Club World Coffins.

You suggest exactly what I have requested on 11 Oct (one paying J and one reward flight) - give it a try!

Latest communication from Virgin is still inconclusive to me - they don't seem able to answer my questions at all.

Just so we're clear in this thread, am I correct in my understanding that nobody is questioning the service/quality of the GNF offering for those that want it?

The key issue seems to be that it's being introduced, cabin-wide, without choice?

(... or is there something else, too?)

From my point of view most definately. I think it is a great service to offer those who want it.

Seems worth a poll? Yes for all, yes but by choice, or no ...

For me it's all about choice - even more so where there's no club house before take off or on the longer flights.

The whole darn thing is absolutley about choice. VS can offer a service that involves being force fed cold spam fritters before being beaten to sleep for all I care, as long as other, more sane passengers can opt for the Freedom menu/full drinks service/hot brekkie that they've come to know and love.

There is some merit in the argument that if there is an emergency, then comatose is the best state to be in. It's certainly a principle I aspire to when visiting the Bar in UC;)

There is a poll here in the Clubhouse forum. So far it's 94% against the service.

I think you've missed the point I was making Sean, this is NOT about whether people want/don't want the service (in fact, I dare say, on some flights I've been on I'd welcome it).

It is about having the CHOICE of whether opt-in to GNF or not. That Poll did not give the true picture of what people's issue seems to be. Nobody is saying the service should not be offered - they just want it OPTIONAL. (ie: Not a "yes"/"no" question ;) )

Thanks for explaining the point Paul, I agree with you on that. I was just making slinky09 aware of the poll because i don't think he knew there was one at all, sorry for not making it clearer [:I].

What about the decrease in work for the crew?

A question for all the crew out there:

Would you prefer it due to having to do less work or would you prefer to be doing the work?[?]

Spot on (from my perspective).

Specifically for VS24/HKG/JNB sectors from my point of view.
