Charging for drinks, American Airlines charge for drinks $5!!!

People start getting drinks for everyone else and then it gets out of hand, we carry enough alcohol for all the flights if it is drunk in moderation and not consumed like happy hour in Wetherspoons!!!

Putting more drinks on the aircraft does not solve anything at all.

I've been in UC before and the champagne ran out ... honestly, nothing to do with me [}:)]

Lots of good comments in this thread - I'm on the side of the responsible drinker (or at least the one who doesn't drive straight away, be rude to FAs, throw my glass at others, belch loudly, make smutty jokes, moon or worse!).

Hey you lot,

I sometimes think there's one wing full of booze and the other full of jet fuel (I have been known to confuse the two).

I guess turbulence is just the captains way to make a cocktail then.

Interesting thread. Just for my three and sixpence worth:

I don't drink much on planes and not at all when flying with the kids as it takes all my wits to keep them entertained. I have never really understood the drinking culture and now that VS do not serve a bitter on board I see very little reason to drink other than a small glass of wine with dinner - which incidentally A380, your body will metabolize in about 2-3 hours.

I rarely see anybody severely intoxicated on an aircraft and despise the idea of charging 'seperately' for drinks like the US airlines but this is the 21st century and maybe a totally new system could be applied. One possibility would surely be some kind of 'charge card' which is provided at check-in and 'charged' up to a certain number based on length of flight. I know it would be a little more admin and you could not stop people pooling allowances but at least it offers the beginnings of a solution - assuming that one is actually needed.

To those who advised against any drink at all when driving, sound advice thanks, I hadn't really considered the other factors.

We'll probably run out of alcohol over Ireland anyway :D

I totally agree with what Declan has already said.

We already carry more alcohol on the Vegas flights than our other routes however it is the only flight where we REGULARLY have to close the bars early...

But I assume overturning the service cart is OK? [}:)]

Oh naturally. Especially on Las Vegas routes after the captain has mixed my very dry martini while wobbling the wings during some tubulence. After all, with everyone restrained at the time there's more for me [:w]
