Snooze Packs to replace Amenity Kits

Hmmm, essential items for snooze pack:

1 cashmere eye shade
1 pair of slippers
sleep suit
2 temazepan (in case one of the below not available)
moisturizer
lip balm
water spray
brad pitt (oh he's taken, Brandan Routh will do [swap for your man/woman of choice])

BTW I'm a fan of reducing waste on c**p or unnecessary items, but would prefer a basket on the bar containing everything else so you can dip in.

Well one item that certianly could go is the charity envelope. Not to end the charity program but have a FA at each exit with plastic bags for people to drop their money.

Just heard that the UC Amenity Kit will be replaced with a snooze kit this month. They will contain just the core items - socks, eyeshades, earplugs and the charity envelope.

So it's 'Y' amenity kits for all.

Following Slinky's post, I think that giving out slippers to complement the sleep suits would actually be a great idea!

On the serious side this does sound like an excellant suggestion[y].

¥ ThereÕs a message printed inside the snooze pack saying ÒFor any other little extras you may need, we carry an additional selection of essentials to make your flight more comfortable. Simply ask a member of your cabin crewÉÓ

Thanks for the info, Albert, but I think it all sounds a bit cheap and nasty for a premium product. The note included to ask for extras doesn't give any clues about what extras are available, which means that some people will feel too shy to ask for anything and others will ask for items which are not carried. At the very least, the wording should state what items can be requested.

This sounds very disappointing, this is my first UC experience and I was really looking forward to all the little extras. Compared with other airlines' amenity kits this seems very poor.

You pay for it, You want it. Nothing less. What are VS thinking????????

I think this is a severe case of jumping to conclusions guys!!!

What is actually going to happen is a standard 'Snooze Kit' of unisex essentials will be given out (or for short overnight flights already on the Seat) and the IFBT will then offer each passenger a range of 'Extras' as part of the welcome service.

So, rather than everyone getting cufflinks!, there'll be a selection of items offered such as moisturiser, sewing kits, collar stiffeners etc.

Its a kind of 'Pick & Mix' idea to actually give you what you'll need for the flight. And you can choose! And if you want extras you can ask too.

This is not a cost cutting exercise, its intended to give our Upper Class passengers a more individual experience.

Of course when you've actually seen/ tried the kits we'd love to get feedback in the normal ways.

The IFBT handed out the kits on my last flight.

Actually I like the idea of being able to pick what I need/want--and I do believe that this option has been a firm favorite in prior posts re amenity kits,so perhaps we should be saying thanks for listening?

Some questions:
1. will there still be some sort of container for holding the stuff--perhaps not ob (no loss there for me!) but a container that snaps or zips?
2. Will the choices from the grab bag include items that are relevant to gender needs; (e.g. virgin vie lovelies for women...)
3. So goodby to any goodies? I love my black UC tags, especially as they keep getting liberated enroute, it's nice to be able to replenish that stock, and thought the OB mirrors were great. It would be nice to have gender -based shiny things--earrings for the ladies would be quite nice or VS carbiners? Or of course uni-sex UC tags... dunno who ever thought cufflinks were a good idea! Would have appreciated a small bottle of Laiphroig rather than cufflinks but the UC tags were the best.

4. I do think a toothbrush and paste should be requisite along with eyeshades, sockies and sleepsuits. Oh and Polos--are they in the grab basket?

What the hell do you mean 'the weather is good' V-Ben. Its been ^&**((&^% 4 or 5 degress most days over night and it hasnt been over 9 degrees during the day all week down here in Melbourne. I am sitting next to a radiator typing this shivering. Lol

I just can't see this "pick and mix" concept working.
1.The best "sweeties" allways get nabbed first (well they do in this house)so potentially not all passengers will get what they want.Are they going to carry at least one of all the "extras" for each passenger just in case? (I think not)
2.Having to request stuff is a pain in the backside -surely the crew/IFBT have plenty of other work to be doing (like doing treatments/feeding and watering passengers).Items in grab baskets get grabbed (so to speak)- will there be fights between passengers at 35,000 ft over the last sewing kit??
I'd like to see a return to the kits that had moisturiser/lip balm /soothing eye mask etc and more girlie stuff (although I like the cufflinks)but this idea does seem to be a cost cutting exercise regardless of how it's dressed up (think red pillows and flowers..).

I know that some other airlines (e.g. SQ) have gone down this route in J, but frankly it just looks like a cost cutting exercise. Just look at the crummy kit you get now and compare with the decent Virgin Vie pouches (must be about 4 years ago) which had three proper pump action containers of various unguents, a decent pen, proper mints etc.

Incidentally, I hardly ever use anything from the amenity kit on the plane, but I do use moisturizer, toothbrush/paste etc. on short business trips, so it helps to have everything handed out at once in an easy-to-transport bag.

Before you slate it why cant you wait and see what its like.
You may even like it. The amount of kits that are left behind on flights in J is high the only things that get used on night flights are Socks, Eye Shades and Tootbbrush/Paste.

If you need other stuff we will have it. Shave Kit, Sewing Kit, Beauty Products etc. You are going to have more choice.

If we're offered a choice that could be good. If we're told "We have additional stuff if you need it" that could be bad. So a "Freedom Menu" approach might work. It does seem perverse though that TPTB see Amenity Kits being left behind as evidence that they're not wanted rather than evidence that they're crap. There's none so blind as those who don't want to see and all that.

Anything that might lessen the service would be a shame and this is hopefully not an indficator of further changes. Having said that the UC kit while OK is not as good as the first v-vie version. When you travel UC regularly the current OB kits have little use after the flight when h ypou have several - apart from giving.
