Hi Richard

Nice to see some familiar names from a.net! :)

LGW-SFO was a summer only service that operated until the LGW fleet was reduced in 2001. From memory it operated 2 or 3 times per week with a Classic in addition to the daily 744 from LHR. I can't remember the flight no. but i'll check when I'm at work.

Cheers

Thanks for the info Alan!

I spend less & less time on a.net, and now call v-flyer my home!

like you said on the other thread - too many know it all teenagers!

Hi Airchabum

Thanks for the info regarding VS73/74. As we are on the first flight out for this service will there be any extras i.e. celebratary drink or will it just be a normal flight. I flew with BA to Jamaica on a first flight and they had drinks, band and food at the gate before boarding. Would be nice again but won't get excited. As for us northerners having more holidays and money it may be true but we also appreciate a good airline when we see it. I presume it will be a pre-refit plane though.:D

Hi Richard

Yes I agree...I'm less inclined to post anything on there now 'cos it just gets ignored or hijacked.

Hi Longlegs

Yes sadly it'll be a pre-re-fit [?]! a/c. Although it's the first VS73 obviously it's not the first MAN-MCO service so I doubt whether there will be any brass bands or anything. Anyway have a great trip [8D]

Cheers

Hi Archabum
I've been away from VFlyer for a year or two! Did contribute a few posts and seat ratings before (even on 742's shows my age!). Glad to see you on this Forum now, and Richard 28. I often go to A.Net mainly to see your great info. Do get infuriated by a few idiots on A.Net ranting and raving about how cr@p VS is and especially Airbus, esp A340s.. Only crap thing about them is VS's PE seats in A343's!
I'm going out to IAD in UC mid-Oct hopefully in UC on reward. It's a A346 definitely but FC staff unsure about Suite. From your post should be OK by then? Still nothing much wrong with J2000 esp when free!
Questions for you? A bit Anoraky I'm afraid.
When is next new A346 due? I believe can't be far away. How many new ones this year, early next?
I heard 3x LHR 744's going to MAN/LGW next year?
When XLG get's it's Suite, will it be in LGW config?
I believe Air Atlanta 742's actually owned by VS and leased back as you no longer have AOC for this type? Great shame to see these go, as they were in fantastic conditon when purchased from Air NZ about 5 years ago. I fllew upstairs in UC in VPUF in 2000 and it looked absolutely stunning. Was in 744 style interior and had the straight staircase instead of the more normal spiral job. Seemed very modern and spacious and clean unlike BA Classics at that time. Also very reassuring to see the RR logo on the engines!
Sorry for the long-winded questions.

Colourphil,

Im also a VS staffer so I will try answer your queries as best i can....

IIRC the next 600 (G-VSSH) is due late this year early next, january rings a bell, and will be shortly followed into service by G-VNAP the next 600 currently on order.

On the A.net subject, i think the main problem on A.net forums is it is dominated by very patriotic americans who seem to have something against anything that isnt manufactured in seattle. if you get my point. thats why it so often seems that most posts turn into one big airbus v boeing argument!

XLG is currently in dublin, it positioned out there last friday and is being fitted in LHR config as it wont immediatly be used at LGW in there near future.

I too am a fan of the 200's a "real hands on" a/c IMO, an i think this is why alot of flight deck crew like them aswell!!

Out of interest, why is XLG going to be based at LHR. Thought capacity / services at LGW were remaining stable throughout winter

XLG is a Heathrow-based aircraft, always has been, as far as I remember.

I think it's occasionally been over to Gatwick to "help out" because it was the last non-suite 744 at Heathrow, and I'm sure VS ops would rather keep the suited aircraft at Heathrow, and "loan" XLG, because of the advertised "guarantee" of suites on JFK/SFO.

Cheers,
Mike

Correct XLG is a LHR based aircraft.

Next summer some LHR 400 will be going in AGAIN!!!! to be reconfigured to a LGW 400 layout. I beleive thats the Oydessy aircraft ,cos by then the NOVA system will be very similar to Oydessy entertainment.

It seems mad to keep refitting the aircrat but until the new LGW services start next year the extra UCS suite seats will make lots of maoney from LHR.

Hi Daffy

Yes that's right :)

Hi Colourphil

Welcome back to VF :D Totally agree with you and Vrocking re A.Net...it was a rarity that a VS thread didn't turn onto '4 engines 4 longhaul' or 'Will RB get Concorde' or 'A vs B' etc. And it does seem to have been taken over by the Yanks...nothing against them but i'm just not particularly interested in hearing about every single Southwest 737 movement! [|)]

To add to what Vrocking said; yes you should be on a Suite a/c in mid-Oct as they should all be done by then. Note it's currently a 343 on Tue/Wed/Thur VS21/22.
As for new 346 deliveries, I've only got info for this year at the moment and there aren't any shown so I presume (as per Vrocking) that they are due in 2005.
Re LHR 744s AFAIK 1 to LGW and 1 to MAN..don't know which ones tho.
Yes you are correct re the Air Atlanta contract. Not sure what'll happen after May, ie Air Atlanta could find new homes for them or they could give them back and they'll probably end up in the desert [:(]

Hi jamie

LHR based 744s spent some time at LGW earlier this year to cover for the LGW fleet all going to AMS for C-checks.

Cheers

Great info from the VS staffers, thanks people.

On the IAD theme, I'm on VS21 and 22 at the end of November, out on Saturday, back on a Monday. FC don't seem to know the equipment yet, but seat map shows a 340...Alan, you're giving me a hope for a 346 now, fingers are firmly crossed

OK i had forgotten about this thread for a number of days so blythy, airchabum and co do except my appoligise for slow reply!

Back to the terminal issue:
Wouldnt it be great to see bmi and VS together in say T1 and have *a in t2- after all they are connected etc. But would be intereting to see if they do leave t3 after all as has all ready been mentioned a lot of money has been spent! I wouldnt like to see us at T4 all on our own as connections are just shocking. Well Europier is still a bit european, Icelandair operate from there and so do BA to Spanish destinations using 757 and i belive Aeroflot do (anyone remember the days of airport on the beeb with jermey spake roaring at late pax on the euro pier!) Plus the euro pier is almost famous- its on bend it like beckham! hehe! :D

I am gutted about XLG- I flew on her last month and she was looking a wee bit tired- i hope they get rid of the treadful floor in the loo- its gross and doesnt do wonders when on the loo!

It strikes me that alot of money is being wasted- why on earth dont they just config all a/c with V:Port rather than V:Port and Nova. Surely its more expensive to develop and operate 2 systems than one (but nice to see Nova is being expanded!)

Blythy- LGW is expanding- Cuba and Bahamas next year, on top of Tobago and Grenada last year (or was that late 02). As airchambum said i wouldnt mind betting with continued far east expansion at LHR (SYD (YAY), PEK, MEL, DXB etc) that routes like EWR, BOS, MIA, SFO move back to LGW but then how would they config the a/c? Surely u cant tell me there will be less demand for UCS on these routes just because they arent flying to LHR anymore?? 10 years down the line i would see that LGW has all the US Destinations (maybe 1 LAX and JFK left at LHR) and LGW has the rest. After all arent all US destinations becoming B+S???

BAsed on SRB's dream destinations i would say we will see:

LHR-PVG
LHR-HKG
LHR-SYD
LHR-JNB
LHR-LAX (once daily- other to LGW)
LHR- JFK (twice daily- other to LGW)
LHR-PEK
LHR-IAD
LHR-RIO (sori dont no code)
LHR- Cape Town
LHR- Nairobi
LHR- LOS
LHR- DEL (if it lasts)
LHR-SIN (op by SQ)
LHR-BKK ???

LGW to have: MCO, MIA, EWR, SFO, BOS, ANU, SVU, BGI, Grenada, Tobago, Cuba, Nassau, Mauritius (?)

Guys,

Can we bring this back to the Suite Re-fit Schedule and if you want to, start a fresh topic on LHR Terminal Speculation.

Hi Vslf

I'll have a look at work later.

Hi Willd

Why are you gutted about 'XLG? I thought you'd be happy about her being re-futted! :D Incidentally I flew to JFK on her in June (the planned UCS a/c got nicked to go to PIK for the 'Top Gear' filming [V]) and I thought she looked ok inside.

I'll save the terminal discussion for another thread ;) but re the IFE, Nova was inherited from Alitalia who ordered the a/c. It's very expensive and time consuming to totally re-fit an IFE system so it's not a decision VS would take lightly. I was under the impression that the LGW fleet will get v:port although other VS staffers on here think that Nova will be upgraded. We'll have to wait for more info on that. Odyssey is being retained as it's a pretty good system and pretty reliable.

Re moving services to LGW, I'm sure we'll try to keep the US services at LHR as that's the best place for yields. However I can see MIA, BOS and maybe a EWR service moving back if the slots are needed at LHR for new services.

Cheers
