UPDATE!!

The VS lady in the EI lounge also said it will be 22nd Feb. If two separate people tell you the same thing, it must be true...

Don't believe anything EI tells you! Trust me on that one!

If there's a baseball trip planned I could be persuaded....

It wasn't the EI lady, it was the lady in the VS uniform. I'm going to take your advice and I'm still not going to believe it though.

I went to a baseball match last year, Cincinnati Reds. It went on for ever, and by 11:30 pm I was losing the will to live, so I made an excuse & left early. The cheerleaders were good though.

Even if you have no idea what's going on on the field ([:w]) they are worth going to for the rituals and people watching; three things particularly spring to mind -

- the national anthem;
- the 7th inning stretch;
- buying snacks from the guy with the tray, the rest of people passing your money down to him, and then getting the right change back the same way

An ice hockey game is also good fun; fast, the promise of some ultra violence punctuated only by the TV enforced halts to play (whatever is happening) when the commercials are on.

Don't you have to book months in advance for Red Sox games, or is that only when they're up against the Yankees (or are tickets for those passed from father to son)?

Not sure about the fascination of watching a game of rounders (as we used to call it in school....)

The last few seasons have sold out Fenway Park for every match, the only way to get tickets is to buy early when they're announced - will probably be very soon I'm guessing (season starts April usually), or through agencies. Yankees tickets at Fenway are not generally available, you have to enter a lottery to be given the right to try to buy one. In 2006 I won and still wasn't able to actually buy the tickets!

I have never had too much problem getting Redsox tickets (apart from Yankees games).

Ticketmaster through Redsox.com is the easiest way - you can print the tickets off on your home computer and the bar code is scanned as you go into the ground.

Another option is stubhub.com, but I have never used it, so can't comment.

Yes, all games sell out, but there always seem to be some on sale at the ground before the match - we even got tickets for ALCS play off games last year, on the night of the match from the stadium box office - albeit after quite a long queue.

Yup (as we say in new england) that's the way. Interesting seats are up on the green monster. Fenway is one of those wonderfully unique antique ball parks--but right in the heart of the city and full of die hard fans who are sox all the way. The ritual parts of the game are all a part of it (crescendo accordian, Fenway sausage and onion rolls, really watery beer, the wave) and make even the longest 12 inning games moderately bearable.

Baseball can be a challenge when not much happens but certainly not more so than cricket. Big difference is no tea breaks. Note: Curt Schilling now has his own brand chardonnay.

Happy to help with any booking challenges or should a VFlyer have the sudden need for some Red Sox memorabilia from the Twins store across from the stadium. They now do dog leashes and baby cups.

cheers,

RR

Baseball is a fairly easy game to get in to. When the wife and I do get a chance to go to the US, we try to take in a game.

We've seen;
NY Mets v Atlanta Braves
San Francisco Giants v Florida Marlins
Oakland A's v The Evil Empire (NY Yankees)

On our honeymoon in 2003, we went to Fenway Park for the tour which was really cool,which included going down to left field and touch the green monster, unfortunately it was the day after the BoSox were knocked out of the playoffs by the Evil Empire.

Also Ice Hockey is really good if you get a good match up and depending on how the home team is doing. We went in 2003 and saw 3 games in Chicago but as the team wasn't doing very well and it was nearly the end of the season it was fairly quiet. However we went in Oct 07 to Washington and saw the Capitals play Pittsburgh Penguins and it was a full and rowdy house between two very bitter rivals. So bitter that the Penguin fans were actually booing during the National Anthem.

When we were in Legal seafood before xmas I saw the Curt Schilling chardonnay behind the bar. There was also a merlot with another players endorsement but can't remember who it was.

That would either be Manny Ramirez's 'Manny being Merlot' or Tim Wakefield's 'Caberknuckle'.

Okay. I've booked my BOS Clubhouse christening trip. Out 6th March, back 9th March, and I'll be there for my thirty-mumble-th birthday on the 8th.
