I would suggest following the weight guidelines. If you get as far as the cabin of the a/c, make sure the crew do not see you struggle or do not have to readjust the bag themselves. I have had two heavy bags shift in flight and one seriously injured a passenger. Heavy bags in the cabin get taken straight to the hold, no unpacking and repacking, so be warned. I know it sounds harsh, but I have them taken to the hold as I am not willing to see anyone injured. The rules are in place for a reason.

I could not agree more !
I have also seen bags shipped straight to the hold as they are TOO big and heavy to be in the cabin.
the chances of the bag falling out and really hurting someone is not worth the chance in my eyes [B)]

I guess we as crew are sticklers for it, but it is for a reason.
do you REALLY NEED it in the cabin. many many times I have seen people whacking other passengers through the isle with there massive wheelie bags and rucksacks, then struggle to find space and then not even take the bag out during the flight.

Passengers in UC are able to to take 2 carry-ons. Because they have the space and wardrobes. Econ there is no additional space. If the bag is enough for a weeks holiday and you can't get it into the overhead yourself, then the liklyhood is that it will need to be checked in

Harsh I know... sorry
