To be clear, the frowns I see seem to be from fellow (almost entirely male) pax, not the crew (who have been on the whole good to excellent).

This exact thing happened to me in T5. Walking over to the First Wing, I was chased after by an agent screaming, "Sir! Er, sir, er, THIS WAY SIR!" I thought it was some security issue, so I gave her my boarding pass and started walking with her until she stopped dead in her tracks.

"Oh, I'm terribly sorry, sir..."

I also dress for comfort when flying, have flown BA F and will be doing so again in a few days. If a member of ground crew did something like the above to me, there'd be hell to pay. There's few things I dislike as much as making assumptions about people based on how they look, so if someone yelled at me to get into the economy line or chased me yelling after me as I walked towards the premium lanes, they'd get a very loud gobful in return before I turn and walk away.

I did notice on my second flight in BA F that one chap, who must've been Gold or something from the attention he got, was dressed oh so casually... well sort of. He had on striped pyjama bottoms, shirt, and when he left the flight on arrival into London, donned a sport coat. It was a real ensemble to behold. But he was comfy and that's all that matters. I was in fleecy tracksuit bottoms and t-shirt which I use for lounging around.

That I would like to see :-D

I actually thought it was some genuine security issue, and I was about to be interrogated.

Thinking about it maybe my mismatched socks were a security issue in BA F!

It's perfect, it describes most of the posters to a tee. For so many of the reasons that people have said within here I do not fly BA unless it is absolutely the last resort. And of course meeting one of the DYKWIA that insist they are not DYKWIA GGL/Gold/Gold with bar types from FT on there! :)

Don’t tell anyone... I got the word from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine many years ago!

I would have blown a gasket!!!

BA did this to my friend at BHD (she’s great fun, loves make up and bling) and it was all I could do not to complain. The whole thing happened in about 4 seconds so decided to let it pass, but next time ...

It's never been cabin crew doing this in my experience, just that one time at check-in. But then all it takes is it happening once...

The Swissport "greeters" Virgin employ at MAN used to be like this - they'd look you up and down and then give you "travelling in economy today sir?" as you tried to approach an UC check-in desk. To be fair, they have toned it right down as it's been a good few years since I had this (usually travel in jeans & a HK 7's rugby shirt).

Has it ever worked the other way, I wonder? Someone wearing a three-piece suit gets directed to F, only for the agents to find a Y boarding pass?

I've never had an issue with walking into the First Wing, do remember a couple times of flying UC and being directed away from UC check in.

Did once receive a slight change in service at Boston check in once they realised I was in First

VS are always more happily brazen! Once at LHR T3 before an UC flight, I got a very upbeat, smiley, "flying Economy today?"

Haha! I'm a bit alternative looking so I always confuse them whichever class I'm flying in.

I had something similar to that in LGW about 15 years ago when there used to be someone checking boarding passes and passports before you were allowed to enter the sacred portals of the check-in desks. I, along with my young son arrived at the entrance to UC/PE at the same time as a gentleman clad in blazer and cravat along with his grown-up family. The lady checking documentations swithered between the two of us and even though I was on the UC side of the barrier, turned to the gentleman and asked, "Travelling in Premium Economy, sir". He assented and she processed the family with much joviality before waving them over to a UC desk. Turning to me, she said in rather patronising tones, "Travelling, Economy? The desks are over there". "No," sez I, "Upper Class". All of a sudden she became sweetness and light. Too late, lady! Too late!
