Bottle of water
2 tins of M&S Curiously Strong Mints
Archos AV400 & Spare Battery
Philips Noise Reduction Headphones (Not as good as BOSE but smaller & lighter)
And I've just got a new ibook so might take that next time (4.5 hours battery life)

I see a few of you have included the Targus Air/Auto adapter in your lists; is this so you can run a laptop for e.g. direct from the a/c power without the need for the usual brick/ac adapter ? If so, can someone tell me what to choose from on this page
I have a Sony Vaio VGN-B1XP (which I see isn't listed on Targus's list of compatible laptops) but I'm pretty sure mine would/should be compatible. Are there power outlets in all classes or just W & J ?

Oh yes I forgot about my Targus air adapter as well.

There is lap-top power in all Upper Cabins but it's only in PE on A/C with V:Port and the wash PE seats (but not the LGW 744's in the new PE section on the main deck though)

I normally take my QC2 headphones, plus my laptop to play DVD's and to burn pictures to discs.
However, I have just got a new Sony Vaio laptop and have made a BIG mistake!
The DVD drive is a Matsu****a/Panasonic drive and cannot play other than Region 2 dvd's, as no software will make it change its region setting.
Curse you Sony/Matsu****a/Panasonic! [:(!]

Alan

Somewhere on the internet (cannot for the life of me remember what the URL is) there's a web site that has region-free firmwares for most lap-top and PC DVD drives. My Compaq lap-top DVD drive was region 2 locked but I downloaded the region free firmware and it now works with any region DVD now.

Regards

Mitchja,
the problem is that the Matsu/Panny drives are DVD Rom drives. They check the region code of the disc against the region code of the player. the only way is a firmware upgrade to make them Region free, but no one seems to be able to do it at the moment. They have been trying since 2004 it seems :-(

For those of you by trhe way not stuck with these drives, the two best sites to get region free or to see if your unit can be changed are
http://forum.rpc1.org/

or http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks

then you can watch any region film on your virgin flight (keeping it on topic :D)

Yeah - I've been following discussions at rpc1.org for a while to try and find a f/w for my UJ-825S - seems like it's nigh on impossible. Shame, since this slot-loader is a nice bit of kit otherwise.

Oooh great topic.

I'm surprised at how many of you bring your laptop. Last year my son brought his and it was a pain in the neck trying to mind it - especially when going through various airports.

My "must-haves" in my carry-on are:

Credit/debit cards
Digital camera
Spare batteries for same
A good book
Specs to read same
Medications
Three purses with different currencies (euro, sterling and dollars)
A ticket holder wallet to hold tickets, e-tickets, itineraries, hotel confirmations, passports, FF cards of various airlines etc.
Facial cleanser and moisturiser
Hairbrush
A clean pair of knickers [:I] and t-shirt - just in case (and especially on overnight flights)
The kitchen sink (just kidding!)
Anything else my son can foist on me!! [}:)]

Apart from the obvious UCS boarding card :D, passport etc., what do you always make sure you have with you when you fly?

I never leave home without my Bose noise-cancelling headphones, laptop to watch MY choice of DVD on, Priority Pass Lounge List and a good book.

What do YOU carry-on [?]?

VizBiz.

I always take my travel size white noise machine with earphones. I sleep like a baby on the plane and in my hotel room!

Hi all,

Well pretty much the same as everyone else,

Apple Powerbook (love it cause its small and sexy) + spare bat
Bose QC2s
2 Magazines
Sony PSP (ipods are so last year[8D])
Digital Camera
Lip Balm

All in a nice crumpler rucksack/camera bag, which fits perfectly under a Y seat and in overhead, but not in Upper deck PE![}:)] so I have to unload my stuff into the nice extra compartments under the window and then have my bag put in the wardrobe for the flight. My new trick is to keep a plastic bag handy and at the end of the flight I put all my stuff into that ready for landing, and then jump up (after the seatbelt signs have been switched off) pick up the bag and down the stairs. Excellent.

I have my usual big cycle-courier style shoulder bag - one of the original - not outsourced to some factory in China - Timbuk 2 bags. They don't make this particular bag anymore, which is a real shame, as the quality is amazing. That bag goes with me almost everywhere.

Inside, on a plane trip, you will find:

Laptop, power supply, UK power cord (plus either US or EU power cord, depending where I'm going), Em-power cord
Small Microsoft "laptop" mouse
iPod
Sennheiser Noice Cancelling headset (small, foldable and light!)
Sennheiser "in-ear" regular headphones
Sunglasses and spare glasses
Headache tablets
Antiacids
Business cards
Ethernet cable
Some work paperwork
A book or two
Digital Camera, and compact-flash adaptor
Mobile phone
"credit card"-sized 4-port USB2 hub

Of course, I'll have passport and paperwork relevant to where I'm going when I get off at the far end, too!

Hanging from a loop in the shoulder strap, you will find a FC Au luggage tag!

On long hauls, you can add a small "survival kit" made up from bits of amenity kits and my own stuff:

Moisturiser
Lip balm/vaseline
Tissues
Earplugs
Eyeshades
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Breath mints

Other stuff, like mains adaptors, phone, camera and iPod chargers, my main set of toiletries, etc., are packed along with the clothes in the checked bag.

Cheers,
Mike

This is a good topic :D

Ipod
Diary/Journal
Mints
Camera
Lots of differnt coloured pens (forms and to make my diary look pretty)
Priority Pass stuff
Business Cards
Laptop (if away for more than a week)
Lavender Oil (sniffing it like poppers often helps me sleep)
Heat Magazine

I leave the guns, knives, soil and snails at home....

Must have accessories:

Tickets - Checked about 100 times before boarding
Passport - Checked about 150 times since getting up
Me - Quite important that one
Reading material - Normally a mag, Guardian too big and not enough concentration for a book
Moisturiser - Makes all the difference to hands and face
Mints - Polo's or Curiously Strong ones preferred
Camera - Love to take pics
Gerswin - My ever present travelling companion!

Also experience from my last flight may well add an Audio Book on iPod or Mini-Disc. Really helped when trying to drift off to sleep.

Blimey Mike you sure that lot is under 6kg!:D

I forgot to add put the digital camera down on my list to that makes my list:

A decent book with enough pages left to last out the flight.
My specs - obvious reasons.
MP3 Player/CD Player - only just got MP3 plyer plus it only has 128mb space so wouldn't last entire flight.
CDs.
Batteries
Crossword puzzle book - in case I get bored with other book.
Pen and pencil.

I think so, though I've never weighed it! Checking the majority of the contents of that bag is not an option. In any case, you're entitled to one carry on bag, plus a briefcase.

If anyone wants to play that game, I'll pull the laptop sleeve (which has handles) out of the bag and lo-and-behold, that's my "briefcase", and my carry-on is a couple of kilos lighter!

The laptop is a small ultra-portable (HP Compaq nx4010) - it's very light, so I think we're good! ;)

Mike

I didn't know you could take a briefcase as well as another bag. Told you I was new to this didn't I! [:I] So does a laptop case count as a briefcase and does this also have a weight limit? Hmm contemplating taking my laptop, but then again I don't think I'll use it - well I certainly won't for the first 16 days as we'll be too busy in the theme parks!:D

Goal: Travel light

Carry- on small rucksack (formerly held bike water tube system) outbound:

Two books, never like to worry over being without
specs on neck string (not chic but don' t disappear enroute)

passport, tix etc.
mobile
currencies
plastic inc FC card
noise canceling headset/batteries if not flying UC (used these on HP SNA-PHX to BOS Sunday and slept the whole way).
travel sox (love these but often lose them after peeling them off post landing in warm climate)

Inbound:
All of above (new books)

Less is more.

The virgin website doesn't quite say that. In UC you get to take two items of cabin baggage, in PE and Econ. only one.

In that case, I believe that there is a difference between a piece of carry-on "luggage" (e.g. a small suitcase, shoulder bag, duffel bag, etc.) and other sorts of carry-on item (handbag, purse, briefcase, carrier bag, etc.).

You are only allowed one of the former. You are allowed a reasonable number of the latter (e.g. for duty free, etc).

I have travelled on may airlines, VS included, with a small laptop bag and a carry-on piece of luggage within the limits.

Mike

Given the size of glasses on VS in anything other than upper class, how about one of those little bottles of wine. Also find an exercise mat is useful if travelling coach - then you have something all ready to use to stretch out those joints after being cramed into a space that would be considered too small for a veal calf.

Oh I don't know Fred, the lesss space my veal calves have the better - the point is to stop them moving surely ;)[}:)]
