And lion's balls are quite tasty!

I have seen airline food done very well on VS UC. It isn't too bad in Y either IMHO.

The quality is reportedly falling on some VS routes and given the number of negative comments on V-flyer, I see that as a negative trend rather than isolated incidents. So whatever one's personal opinion of the starting point, a downward trend is not a desirable thing.

Sorry to disagree VS_Lover but I have had some really enjoyable meals on previous flights but unfortunately the food on our last Virgin UC flight was truly disgusting. If it had been just average I would have been a bit disappointed but we had spent the best part of £10,000 on these flights and the quality of the food was absolutely dreadful. In addition there were no light bites at all which left you with very little choice.

I would have liked to think that we were just unlucky but there are too many people now having the same experience and Virgin really must do something about it. I have found myself thinking that on our next flight I will make sure that we eat beforehand and take plenty of our own food for the kids - that can't be right for an Upper Class service.

On my recent SQ flights the food was superb and this was in Y!!
So good food can be made at 40,00 ft!!

I'm used to food being alright on most carriers but I actually enjoyed the SQ food (I tried both the european/asian options)

Just to jump on the band wagon,i've had some great meals in the air,CO and BA Y meals are always good,VS is kind of hit and miss, but for the most part good,UC used to be great,as the MRS will tell you,the only place she can get me to eat runner(string)beans is in UC on VS !! guess it's something about the taste at 30k feet.

ok so it was a 5 k letter.Yes your right,VS just fix the problem please.
Way back when, when I was doing a lot of long haul I would be in touch was VS CS every month or so just to let them know what problems I ahd had or seen,it got to a point where the second thing out of my mouth would be I dont need the 10 k before you give it to me (kind of wish I had kept my mouth shut now),it just seems to me to be a bribe instead of fixing the problem.

Sorry, I've been away so I could not reply sooner. I have received another letter from C.R and this time it was a genuine apology from RichardÕs P.A and a credit of 10,000 miles each. This was an expensive flight for my partnerÕs Birthday, so at the end of the day itÕs nice to get the miles but a more pleasant flight would have been better. As I pointed out in my letter the caterers could not be blamed for the three cups of cold coffee!

Alan,
I'm glad you got a proper response!

Was the 10K in addition to the origonal 5K ie 15K total..?

Hiya, no it was 10,000 miles each in total but and this was what I asked for. The genuine apology this time around made all the difference though.

What does concern me is V.A choice to switch to caterers that have lost £25 million for the last three years. The fact that Gate Gourmet losses are now public knowledge is not good news for Virgin as they would have been fully aware of this beforehand (unless they are really dumb). Gate Gourmet losses would mean that they would have to Òcut cornersÓ and Virgin's food in Upper has now gone from bad to worse. Somewhere along the lines it seems to me that Virgin have drawn the short straw. I am not a frequent flyer but I would like to think I was realistic, I was never expecting a First Class service and therefore did not raise my expectations accordingly. I am not a snob and I donÕt mind telling you that I had to save long and hard for my flight so of cause it left a Òbitter taste in my mouthÓ. But IÕm over it now !

Alan,
Relieved to learn that you received a proper letter. Sadly, though, must echo my fellow VFlyers' sentiments: fixing problems is better than apologizing for them.

Regards,
Chuck-

Oh OK I'm always getting my wires crossed. Are you able to tell me who they are using now and why and when they changed? Just interested to know. I had a great meal in Jan 05

We WERE using Gate Gourmet (see BA problems this weekend) and we are now using LSG Sky Chefs as of 1st June this year. I was sad to see Gate Gourmet go, funnily enough I am not anymore!

I am sure the catering issues will improve, Square pies will be back am sure ;)
