I believe VS have a dedicated team working on the A380 project. Don't think V:Port will be replaced just yet as it still future proof as it can be upgraded as necessary, as can Odyssey.

Well the next stop is WiFi and Internet. I'm guessing the V:Port is a Collins APAX 150i rebadge and VS have a 3 year contract through Dec 2006 (http://www.rockwellcollins.com/news/page4714.html) for the maintenance thereof. So perhaps this is relevant "Rockwell Collins Systems: Rockwell Collins is expecting its new widebody eTES System to be its flagship product of the future, providing Internet connectivity and expanding AVOD aircraft-wide. Using cable TV modem technology developed for homes and offices, the company claims it can deliver more content choices faster than any other IFE system and with the bandwidth (for data transfer) to support the seat capacity of any twin-aisle aircraft including the Airbus 380 flying or on the drawing boards. The data network bandwidth ranges from 100 Mbits/sec to 1.6 Gbits/sec to the seats, and from 36 to 288 Mbits/sec from the seats. Important players like Airshow and their IFE solutions are taken over by Rockwell Collins." http://www.broadcastpapers.com/data/Wip ... tEnt03.htm

Yup, the world of IFEs is moving quickly. The Odyssey system is based on MAS 2000E, I believe - which was late 2000? That's already out of date.

AVOD systems, with bandwidth increases, new features, WiFi, Internet, etc are all possible today; the only thing that holds an airline back is the budget and resource to support the new system (let's face it, Virgin already have 4, and need to rationalise that a little before adding a new one!).

Will there be loos in the PE cabin? I really hope so!

I also was sure that Virgin were going to try to have shops and stuff on board, where are these going to go do you think? In the hold?

When the A380 was first announced by airbus, they said that it would have casinos, resturant, shopping centres ect. but I think a more standard interior will apply. Airbus said similar things with the A340-600 (they said private cabins for first/biz passengers) but a more standard interior was put on the aircraft. I think Virgin will be as innovative and unique as possible, as they already have bars and massage areas on most aircraft now, so they may have shops, but I don't think they will have swimming pools but I think Virgin will try to put shops on them. Considering the size of the aircraft they may put them on, but anything too big, and safety restrictions may stop airlines from having them. Although I would love all these features though!

Alan

I think that your idea on 'themed sixties toilets' for A380 sounds great; I am sure that this would be the key factor in capturing BA WT plus passengers. :)

My concern is, that as SRB is the same age as me, he may also think that it is a good idea...

I think I am spending too much time on this forum! :-)
I had a dream about the VS A380 UC cabin last night.
It was like the cabins on the QE2, nice wooden lined corridor with seperate cabins, with seats for to/landing with a table for meals, and a couch wich turned into a double bed for night flights. A fridge bar and a plasma screen for TV. Niceley carpeted as well.
For take off the cabin walls could be slid open.

I think I need to see the doctor.....:D:D
