Sorry to be slow, but I'm still stuck trying to work out why there appears to be such a vast difference between what we were told by a "senior manager" and what is apparantly (emphasised) being offered.

It all seems like a bit of a muddle - muddled communications, muddled interpretation by staff, muddled service provision depending on the quality of the CH where you depart from (if one is available), and a muddle between snooze zone and GNF. And where is this choice of either GNF or Freedom I understood was still in place? All your grub turning up on a tray at once doesn't seem like freedom to me - more like TV dinner.

Arrgghhhhh NIMBY attack NIMBY attack...

Jusr realised we'll be doing a GNF back from EWR on Sunday... given how poor the lounge food is there compared to JFK - has anyone done a EWR routing since the "improved choice of food in the lounge" was introduced?

I had breakfast in the EWR CH on the 5th. There was a help-yourself buffet that consisted of cereals, drinks, sausages, bacon etc. and a really nice waitress that brought around drinks. I've never used the EWR CH before so I can't compare it to any previous experiences.:)

Recently flew back from LA to LHR on VS24 and commented to Virgin on my (negative) experience of the GNF.

Response was:
- we are reviewing how we provide our lounge and pre-flight food facilities at LAX
- your comments on GNF match lots of other peoples but we're not sure what to do about it until we deal with the lounge situation.

AKA our poor service is under consideration but we haven't got an answer.

Will update you as I have more news - though not sure it'll be cool.

Umm... Here's a thought: [i]

BIN IT until you have suitable facilities that don't cause a customer service issue...? [ii]

My first experience of any VS lounge access was in LAX while awaiting for VS24. As a newby it was never really explained to me about the VS menu in the lounge and in any case I knew I would be fed on the flight. I just wonder how many other people travelling on VS24 - especially for the first time - are really made aware of the choices. As far as I was concerned the flight was long enough and a full service meal was more than welcome to break up the monotony of the flight as certainly 9:00pm was far too early to sleep!

Also, being the shy, retiring person that I am ;) it took me at least three Clubhouse visits before I felt I could order food with aplomb!

I think thats the point.

With East coast USA flights, GNF is a good idea, but on the long flights, its a bit pointless.

I'm flying VS200/201 to Sydney in February, and I'm thinking, to get aclimatised to Australian time, the plan is to stay awake as much as possible on the LHR-HKG leg, and then to crash on the HKG-SYD. leg, so arriving at around 7am in Sydney I would have just woken up - and hopefully be aclimatised (relatively speaking of course) to Australian time.

But GNF does the opposite - it gives me less to do on the LHR-HKG leg, trying to get me to sleep early, where I want service.

Like I said earlier in this thread, for a 12 hour flight, a three hour food service, can be followed by seven hours of sleep, then 2 hours for breakfast.

It is stupid to enforce GNF to all pax on 12 hour flights - let alone when its half a leg down to Sydney.

Hoping VS will reverse this decission on the long haul flights before February.

Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (are you listening VS??)

I don't think that GNFs should be destroyed but they should be kept to the snooze zones, or at least pax should be given the choice.

I would repost my "MWAHAAHAHAH" evil mad-scientist laughter, but that wouldn't accomplish anything.

Guys, can we not make this thread any longer than is necessary please? Please start a new thread unless your comments are directly related to GNF.

Thanks,
Sarah
