Looks like the brochure has been mailed to Au's only according to the covering letter.

Brochure is very bland and lot's of empty pages - VS could have done a lot better.....:D

My reading of it is that it's been mailed to anyone who's flown Premium recently. I've had it and I'm not Au.

As to the layout with a great deal of empty space...perhaps that's part of the message.

That's the old LHR 747-400 cabin with the large bar and J2000 seating on the right.

Does anyone know details of the actual refit schedule. I am flying to Orlando in March and have noticed this flight is cancelled for two weeks in January. Is it possible that the Orlando 747's will be refitted during this period? I am keen to find out when the 747's will be refitted.

Firstly welcome to V-Flyer :)

Most, if not all the LHR A346 A/C will have to new seats by the end of 2006. Next it will be the LHR B744's and A343's to get them so I'm afraid it's unlikely any of the LGW/MAN B744's will have the new seats by March 2007.

James, many thanks for the welcome and response.

Do you know why this flight is cancelled in Jan? I'm guessing it's in for a major service schedule and possibly the PE refit.

And welcome from me too. It is possibly cancelled because of a combination of light loads and as you say, a major service. It is however unlikely to be for the refit, not only because of the schedule that James outlined but also, if my memory serves me, the refit will be done in a different location to the service.

But the route isn't always operated by the same a/c so one being taken out of service can't be the reason, can it?

Just had a look on the VS website and the 15 and 27 are operating on the dates I looked up in Jan?[:?]

VS.

I imagine what was meant is that because an a/c is due a major service and the loads are light rather than stretch the fleet they just combine 2 flights together thus taking away the need to replace the a/c that is having its service.

Susie

Hello and welcome.

AFAIK the provision of power is dependent on the refit and the LGW/MAN aircraft are at the tail end of that schedule. Have a look at James Mitchell's earlier post in this thread for more detail.

I've added a new section in the FAQs to cover PE refits - see:
http://www.v-flyer.com/faq.asp#6

Let me know if there's any corrections/updates/schedule info/etc..

Cheers

so the 64k question is how do these seats compare to the old ones?

Anyone care to comment?

Firstly - this is an excellent way to re-energise a topic - good one!![y]

And its a good question too - Mrs G wrote a report here.

There do not appear to be too many direct comparisons - although I am sure I have seen some in the various PE trip reports!! Might be worth a look through them using a search on "PE"

Hiya

I'll get round to writing my trip report at some point this week but on the whole was very impressed with the new seats.

I used to leave the old PE seats with a bit of back pain, but left theses seats with no back pain at all, feeling very refreshed. They seem wider and bigger, and to have more leg room.... it even meant I could curl up a bit to sleep.

Only problem I think is the lack of leg support other than a flip down bit on the chair in front, it's fine, but not very useful. I personally thought the old seats where they had a big of a leg rest were better, it's nicer to have your legs leaning against something rather than on something.

The screens are great for VPort, until the chair in front reclines, then it's pretty tough to see... other than that I was very impressed indeed.
