That's right James there is nothing written down about us greeting au's on board, as you say it is down to the FSM on the day. I do make sure that once I've greeted each pax in J, I then check whether there are any gold or silver card holders in W and Y and go and thank them for their continued custom, but I know that not all FSMs do this, and the only way to make sure they do would be for someone to be monitoring them on every flight.
At the end of the day you're gong to get pro-active FSMs and 'taking it easy' FSMs. Luckily I think the former make up the greater proportion at VS but there are some who fall short of the mark, and the only way that their managers will be able to address the situation is if pax complain when service standards are below par, and events such as the one which inspired this tread, occur.
As G-VAVIN stated, please do write in if something happens, or these crew will carry on regardless!

Precisely the point I was - apparently inefftually - trying to make in my post above. If there is a problem, there is surely no need to wait until FSMs 'make themselves known' before asking that the problem be fixed. OK, if at that juncture the FSM doesn't see fit to intervene, then isn't that the time to escalate the matter through VS managers ?
Thanks,
John.
