I have a quandery (sp) Booked on VS 15 on Sunday in UC My wife only knows that we are flying but not UC. Wanting to see her reaction when we go to the UC check in:) Brownie points or what!!!!!

Can someone tell me how busy it gets for treatments in the clubhouse, or can I just put in a request on arrival. I don't know what to request for her, like all females the nails and hair will be done, hates people touching her feet etc.

If I request something she's not keen on will they swap it if theres availability? Or should I tell her now and let her pick a treatment herself.

If there is availability, swapping usually isn't problematic.

My girlfriend was booked in for a facial, and then realised they did hairstyling - the reaction was "Wow, they do hair too?", and changed over to having her hair done.

Of course, if you tell her, she'll probably guess you've got a treat in store.

You could email the vtouch desk at LGW and ask what the availability is like, or what the best time to arrive is so that she has a choice of treatments. They might be able to tell you.

The only thing is that you need to decide what she would like best as a treatment, and i guess only you can answer that. Some people are a bit funny about what they do and dont like treatment wise. If she doesnt like feet then the pedicure is out ... it might be a good idea to call them and discuss with the salon direct to get their opinion, and also to get the thumbs up from them on what treatments are do-able should she change her mind on arrival, but i would have thought that a manicure or massage would be a safe bet if you are unsure

If it were me, id like to know in advance ... or you could subtley mention some of the treatments (ib the guise of 'oh look whats in the LGW CH) and see which she sounds most keen on?

The wow factor on arrival would be great. However by telling her now she can preplan everything - don't rule this out - the antisipation and excitement may be better from her POV. Also you don't have to make excuses as to why you are dragging her to the airport 3 hours early.

Just my thoughts - I of course don't know her like you do.

Maybe score a double suite/bed on your next LHR departure? wink wink

Hmmm. thought they were; especially becuase I would think a bunch of people ex-LGW would love double suite to start honeymoons in sunny places. Learn something new. Thanks HF

Fraid not [:(] LGW only has the A zone with Upper in the nose - the double suites are in the B zone (rows 15-18 IIRC) Although if a LHR 744 moves to LGW in the future, then of course that may change. But yes, in principle, having the double suites lends itself better to the honeymoon/vcation destinations

I tipped on the behalf of my father this summer. I gave the guy 5 quid for a men's haircut.

I normally do.

Normally tip about the same as I would in a salon... argument being (which I have used before) just 'cos the restaurant owner comps you dinner doesn't mean you don't tip the waitrons...

Yep I tip a couple of quid in the salon, much as I would at the barber. Also tip for shoeshine. I figure that as its free, it would be cheap not to. (I don't mean to imply that those who don't are cheap, its just the way I think)

I always tip my stylist generously, and im always the first to tip when im away, giving bills to hotel and restaurant staff as mandatory, so i guess the CH staff are no different.

Note to self ... best take some shrapnel with you next time

I'm in the same boat as High Flyer and feel very embarrased now [:I] I tried to tip the first time I ever used the service and it was politely refused so I never have again. I'd better start taking cash with me in future.

It's just where we live you tip everyone,having never used any of the treatments when I was in the clubhouse before I had know idea.

Tip a barber? For an 8pound haircut? Sorry if I sound stingy but I don't tip salon staff full stop - and I dont know anyone in this country (Australia) who would.

Agreed - but when (in London) it's easy for a guy to spend £30 on a VERY simply haircut, a £5 tip for a free one doesn't sound like bad value to me...

It IS discretionary, of course, remember - so entirely up to you.

I very rarely tip for a V:Touch treatment - have done so once for a treatment in Revivals (when I looked more manky than usual) and once for a shoe shine at LGW before now (when my shoes were transformed from battered & beaten to almost new), but both times it was only after I had to really insist!

[:0][:0][:0] My chap's only a fiver - And he doesn't subject you to all that useless chatter. Mind you he is getting on a bit these days, and a little shakey (which puts some stiffener into your back when he gets the cut throat out!).

That old chestnut of tipping, I tip the CH staff from time to time and this is across the board; the waitress that looked after me and Pix when we flew out to SFO was lovely, so I tipped her. She was a bit embarrassed to be honest, but was very thankful. I am always happy to pay a tip when good service is delivered.

What I do not like is enforced tipping, last week at the W Hotel in Seattle, I ordered a beer for my colleague and a diet coke for me, and the cheeky bugger handed me the bill and said "Do you want me to work out the tip?". After recovering from the arrogance, I replied with "No, its okay I can add zero on my own". Maybe its a culture thing, but what is this whole adding of 18% 'discretionary gratuity' to a bill when there are more than 6 in a party? When picking up a $3000 dinner tab for a work's dinner and finding nearly $500 of it is a tip is a bit steep. Am I meant to send the bill back and tell them to drop it to 10% if the service has been crap?

You saved me, High Flyer! Have just now e-mailed the CH requesting my treatment. Something tells me that even that will not be enough to restore me following the upcoming trip to London.[8D]
