Hiya

Yes Photo Driving Licences are accepted in the USA, and of course your passport. Unless you have a student/forces card, these really are the only two forms of photo ID open to most. You are frequently asked for ID when making purchases on your Credit Card in the USA, so its worth carrying something for these instances anyway.

I always have my passport with me and donÕt have any worries in carrying it around on my person, but your Driving Licence card will fit nicely in your wallet so if you have one if probably the more ideal form of ID to carry.

Have a fab time in NYC :)

Just to clarify,it must be the new driver's licence not the old one's without a picture.

The law's(being very general here) ask for a goverment issued ID,this can be for the purchase of booze, cigrette's etc.

Is the student ID issued by the UK goverment or by the school's?

Ah yes - my favourite Davis, CA supermarket moment. "Sorry sir I can't accept that Driving License - it doesn't have your eye colour on it". Decided against reasoning and just asked for a supervisor....

The National Union Of Students (to which most universities' student unions are affiliated) issue the most common form of ID and it can be done in a very casual way - i've been given the open card to stick my photo on and seal myself!

There's also an ISIC card which is supposed to be international, but again is not goverment issued.
