Checking in extra-early

Dear All,
Being a standard red FC card holder, I often try to check in very early so that I can at least get a decent seat with some legroom. I'm flying with a colleague on Friday on the VS05 (I think that's the number) to Miami. I plan to check in very early as usual and grab a decent seat, but would I be able to hold one back for my colleague, as I know she won't be able to get there until a bit later on?
Just wondering as I'm still a relative novice in the world of transatlantic flying - although I do become a silver card holder after this flight. Welcome to the world of occasional upgrades! (I'll be lucky!)
Cheers
Rich

Hi,
How about prebooking your seat ( if available on line) or phoning VS directly?
( This may not apply if the prebooking allocation is already full or you want an exit row.)
I'm not sure if you will be able to "snag" a seat for your colleague-others may know. But probably no harm in asking.
Good luck
Regards

Hi
Thanks for the prompt response. I was led to believe (by the guy in seat 25B when I was in 25C on one of the 747-400s from LHR to MCO, when I arrived about 4 1/2 hours early to check in) that the seats by the exits are non-bookable and available on the day.
I'll give them a ring tomorrow!
Cheers

I'm not sure on VS rules for holding a seat for a later show, but I have certainly held seats for friends and colleagues with both BA and BMI (BMI on a regular basis as we travel with work all the time between LHR and BRU office).

Well I'll give it a try and report back here to let people know how it goes, just for future reference!

Got to LHR at 6.50 for the 11.30 plane and asked for 2 legroom seats for myself and my colleague and got them! BUT we had to pay £50 for the privilege. A bit odd considering I got seat 25C for free going to and from London to Orlando last month. Anyone know why we had to pay on this plane?
Got on to the plane and 2 people already had our seats so we ended up being upgraded to Premium Economy. Hurrah!! Pity there weren't any seats left in Upper !
Cheers

Well done Rich - that's the way to do it:):)
VS apparently charge for all exit row seats now - except the MCO route.
There are physical / age requirements for the seats and it would appear that the high percentage of families travelling to MCO mean there are not enough takers to justify the charge.
On the other routes, I believe it is still possible to snag them for free if they are not sold.

Maybe if there's no Au's or Ag's on the plane....
Not sure on the earlier cxomment of occasional upgrades on a Ag card, think more of very infrequent. Op upgrades are kept to a minimum.
Thansk,
