Virgin Holidays now selling on EBay

It would appear that, following the success of the Virgin Unite charity auctions. Virgin Holidays are now selling 'last minute breaks' on EBay.

At the time of this post, they have advertised two 3V 7 night breaks to Barbados from MAN later this month.

One has reached £550 after 19 bids, but is still below its reserve.

They are advertised as 'Massive savings on Caribbean late package deal' so it would be interesting to know what the reserve is [8D]

Is this a sign of things to come I wonder?

I know a few businesses that now do this with old/unused stock. Since everyone seems to think they can get things cheaper on eBay nowadays, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"...

... it's a pretty effective way of getting rid of old stock (or in VH's case, unsold holidays [:0])

Not a bad idea, though with a little research you'll probably end up getting a better deal somewhere else.

We've used skyauction.com a few times, again you can find some great deals,a couple of years ago I paid $500 for flights and hotel in HNL for two people !

Nothing like a bit of cheapish advertising to draw traffic to your website with a larger offering of products.
Been doing it myself for over 5 years [}:)]
Still get people who tell me I`ll never make a living. I just agree [8D]

The first holiday went for £844.

Not a bad deal, but hardly giving it away.

Typical of ebay! Things either come dirt cheap or people pay over the odds for products. [}:)]

VH I'm sure are banking on the free advertising and as the first holiday proves, there is profit to me made out of people who get too excited by the whole bidding thing [:0][:?][i]

Yes - but how many people checked out VH website as a result & made a booking , esp. once the price went up & they found they could get alternate deals for similar prices?? Even if only 1 person had done so, surely more profitable than running say a TV or magazine ad. ...

I think Virgin were pretty clever with the DOT too. Maybe some loved partner may get a very nice Valentines gift!

I always used to get gentlemen come into my travel agency at the last minute to book something - they were amazed when it proved difficult on a tight budget!
