Silly Question from "newbie" Virgin Flyer

I've got a rather silly question for all of you Virgin Guru's. :)

In the trip reports, I notice that there is occasional mention of the "queue jumping" benefits for UC passengers of the "purple luggage tags" on cabin baggage.

My family and I will be flying UC on our trip to London this coming July (VS020 & VS019.) Are these "purple tags" issued to us by the limo driver, or at check-in by the counter agent, or are they obtained in some other fashion? Is this benefit only for you lucky folks who travel a great deal (i.e.; for Silver and/or Gold members.)

I'm certainly looking forward to my first flight on Virgin, and the "magic purple luggage tags" are certainly not vital ... just an item of interest.

:D

Jim

If you are travelling UC, you will get the full treatment! Purple tags ..actually silver tags with purple 'upper class' written on are the luggage labels and will be put on your bags at check-in.

enjoy your flights!

Jim

It is the purple boarding card that sets you apart from the rest.

Not only should it secure "Fastrack" through the London Airports ( I know others might say this sometimes is no advantage)but also it helps you in being spotted when you are in queues to board the aircraft (should you not notice the seperate line - which is often the case at LGW).

I am sure you will have a wonderful experience.

I have some of the double sided UC luggage tags from a few years ago which were Purple one side with Silver writing, and then inversed on the rear (no space for the name and address - I have never filled this info in - they can trace me thru my FC number if they need to)

Thanks,
Richard

I have the double sided tags as well on my carry on. I used to have the really old ones with the wavey writing, on the cases until a very camp VS gentleman @ LGW ripped them off at PE check-in and binned them.[V]I though I had cracked it book Y check-in at PE with FC silver and leave the old UC tags on and get prioity luggage well it worked for a while.

If you're checking in at W, you should be having your luggage put in the J/W luggage bin anyway - The PE, UC, Ag and AU tags are watched for (apparantly) - though it is a bit of a pet peeve for me as it normally doesn't work both ways - even though I've vchedked in at J, with J and Au tags.

Poor chaps at LHR Baggage desk know what I'm going to say when I walk over to them, they are good and go and find it out in the back somewhere....

Thanks,
Richard

Only time it happened but Mr camp didnt like checking us in at PE with a Y ticket &FC AG. When his trainee asked what he should tag the bag he said with nothing as he ripped off the UC tags with a certain amount of satisfaction. Its a number of years ago and I wasnt up with the benefits of FC as I was a very recent convert from BA.Now I seem to have more joy getting tagged UC when Flying Y or PE with the FC AU.

Jaguar, you weren't at LGW a few years ago by any chance?

I would have asked to see his supervisor/manager immediately - there is no need for this. Reminds me of the 'person' that explained to me that I was in the PE queue - even though my bag was clearly displaying a FC Ag tag (wasn't so well known then, so pix had no market for my luggage tags) and was holding a W ticket. Fortunately the manager was very nice and apologised profusely for the stupidity. Or the other 'person' at LGW that would not take it that I had been sent down by the Clubhouse to priortiy board the plane - 'You have to be Gold to use the Clubhouse', again fortunately her colleague was a little bit more aware and looked at the tags on my bag.

Oh well the days gone by. Now I normally lose track of time as too busy chatting to the staff.... :)

Thanks,
Richard

Richard It was at LGW about 3 or 4 years ago when the PE and UC check-ins seemed to be in the middle of the hall raised up on a plinth well away from the Y counters.Like you I now use LHR nearly all the time, shame really as I always enjoyed the LGW clubhouse but not the trip down to LGW.
