Hello from the sun in Abu Dhabi… [8D]
Question re the great escapade….. If I book one of these tickets…. (Upper classBusiness of course) the nice people at Virgin have told me it will be Z class but fully refundable etc (nice).
Ok the question is….. If I buy 1 ticket what is the best way for me to get my partner on the same flights I can think of the following options and am unsure of what is allowed.
1) Use my points (after Sydney I will hit 600k!)
2) Can I use an upgrade voucher from my Virgin credit card?
As always you thought are appreciated…
Ok, I am off for a drive to Dubai where I can go snowboarding…..
Thanks

You could use your miles as long as there are G seats open on the flights you are taking.
Do you mean your companion voucher?
If so then no you can not because your fare class is a Z.
If they are going to be traveling with you around the world [y] then you may be better of just buying a second great ecsapage ticket, seems a waste of a lot of miles.

Patrick, where are you going on the Great Escapade ticket, and will your wife be accompanying you on all sectors?
As Dave says, if she is then buying another GE ticket will be the best way forward, if she is only going part of the way with you then that maybe different.

Hi Patrick,
Technically, the flights on the GE are on carriers you can spend your VS FC miles on, however there is one proviso: miles seats must be available on the same flights with the partner carrier (which are very challenging to find) and (ok, 2 provisos) the miles rewards are charged at full return-trip rates, even though they would be one way rewards to get you round the world.
If your miles are burning a hole in your pocket, give FC a call and get them to quote you the number of miles for this, but if you want this miles combined RTW ticket, be prepared to phone the other airlines and ask them for their availability on the flights you would like, as they will have a faster answer for you thank booking the partner reward flights direct with Virgin.
Hope that helps

Availability with GE can be something of a challenge as I discovered.
Because GE seems to be booked into Z instead of D these days, this can limit your choice of flights and options. Adding the need to work rewards into this will give you even more challenges.
In my case, I ended up booking a Star Alliance RTW ticket through Air New Zealand, as that's ticketed into D (the "middle" business class bucket), which wiped out all but one of the availability problems in one stroke (a day shift fixed the other).
Cheers,
Mike

When we were trying to figure out a route I looked at using miles and in the end it's just not worth the headache, even for someone who is cheap like me

,we will of course expect TR as you fly around the world [y][^]
