Hi,
Could someone please explain to me how the Down-Town Disney Check-in system works?
Do you drop of your bags there and then, or just answer the security questions and get your boarding cards and then use the bag-drop at the airport?
Thanks

You answer the security questions and then check in at the desk. there are separate pe and uc queues as well. you get a boarding card and leave your bags which are trucked to mco.

Its an excellen service and lets you get rid of yoru bags at the start of the day so you dont have to carry them around in your car. You also get yoru boarding cards so you can then enjoy the final day doing what you want and basically turn up at the airport without worrying abotu a queue or what seat you will get!! I used to arrive about an hour before take off but that was pre 9/11 - with the new security arrangements and more flights it migth be better to give yourself more time - others on here will advise whats safe!!

So when you get to the airport you can just go straight to Security?

Yep, arrive at MCO and go straight to security.
DTD is a marvellous invention. Free to UC and FC Au passengers, or $5 to anyone else. The Check-in desks open about 8am IIRC till about 1pm (last time i was there) and the queues can get quite long, although there is a priority line for PE/UC pax.
I arrived at MCO about an hour before departure, DTD will advise you when to arrive, but i would imagine its around 60-90 minutes before take off.
Have a good one

Thanks,
Sarah

Hey Rob
Yes you can grab the exit rows at DTD. I have been offered them when checking in at DTD before

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah, wish I had had that info a few months back, would have saved a painful ride home in cattle class. Should have asked I suppose!!!

No worries Rob, every day is a school day!
Next time you will know and you can bag those exit rows! I turned up at DTD about midday (was flying PE) and was offered the PE exit row, i thought it was odd to be offered as i presumed they would have been snagged as soon as check-in opened. With Y you might have a little less luck as obviously the passenger:exit row ratio is a lot higher, and a lot more people will be trying to bag them!
Still, doesnt hurt to try!
Thanks,
Sarah

VA cabin crew insist on announcing the DTD opening time as 8.00am but this is wrong. It is definately 8.30am

They have never had PE and UC lines in the last dozen or so times I have used and is a point I am not happy with, but the lines are never very long.

When i was last there in March there was a purple priority boarding sign for PE/UC/FC Au. As i arrived i was asked if i was PE/UC and as i said yes i was ushered infront of some queuing Y passengers, so i think they have/had an 'unofficial' priority boarding thing going on.
Thanks,
Sarah

I'm always there at off-peak times Sarah, so I wonder if this is why they abandon that in these periods.??

Could be! - Although whats off-peak?
I guess if there are only a handful of people at check-in its deemed unnecessary to have seperate queues, though priority boarding should still be a benefit - maybe you need to wave your Au card a little more furiously

Sarah

Have you ever been late Jan/Early Feb, Last Sept or Early Dec. These periods are QUIET (shhh.) Usually equate to a half plane loads (with the exception of the return Jan flights.
You can't wave your card at those lovely check-in agents at DTD, they are just too nice.
I really don't see it as a problem, but just have definately never seen those signs ay DTD.

When I flew PE last December (the 2nd week of December) the purple sign was definitely there, so we walked next to the line of people already queuing up to the sign, and, once our flight details were checked, i.e. we were flying UC or PE, etc., we were taken over to the next available agent. Although there is no separate check-in as such they apparently (so they told us), take PE/UC people queuing at the purple sign over to the next available agent, thereby 'jumping' to the front of the queue.

I usually always go to MCO 2nd-3rd week of September, its heaven, but yes the last time i went was March-April/Easter hols and it was awful, all the parks were heaving.
I have never queued at DTD, always gone straight to the front - though maybe they took pity on me hauling my obviously oversized Louis Vuitton luggage

Yes, i have always had lovely check-in agents there, could teach some of the groundstaff a thing or two about customer service

Right, if i go to MCO in September, as currently penned in, i will make a point of checking what the situation is!
Thanks,
Sarah

Well Mrs B and I will be in MCO between 16th and 23rd Sept, so you never know, we may be there at the same time. Be sure to let us know when you book and confirm your dates. September I am flying back from MIA a week later so I won't be able to check then.
But on the upside I will take a harder look when I am back in June.

There was priority check-in signs when I was there in Jan, but didn't really matter .... as I was the only one there[:o)]
And i am sure they were there July last year, but that is peak [:?]

I found this planner ages ago and everytime I have been its been really useful and pretty accurate - it lets you know which days parks are busy on by month and by day - so when you have a 2 week holiday in Orlnado you can sort out which day is best to go to which park and when to use things like Extra magic hours etc.
