I think I saw X-mas crackers being confiscated in the past and I don't know whether VS allow these on-board or not now.

I checked the VS Website and it covers the section on 'explosives'. Only problem is I don't know whether these are classed as explosive or not.

Any one have a definitive answer as to whether I can take them and if so if I can carry on-board or whether they need to go into the hold baggage.

Early preparations for Christmas, Paul? [:0][:p]

I guess it depends what that black stuff on the bang part is - is it gunpowder? I know it makes a great effect if you set light to it... [:w]

Give Virgin a call to ask. Although if memory serves, they can be brought ONLY if in original packaging. I do know that party-poppers are a no-no.

I think I will do, but this leaves with a little problem. I want to take some flatpack crackers made by a company called Tallon. They come flat pack complete with the 'pop' attached and with ribbon, hats and 'jokes' in the pack, but the packs never come sealed.

Take 'em down to your nearest packaging company and have them vaccum wrapped. We used to do this with out text books at school. Use the book for the semester, then take it down to the store and have it resealed in plastic- school thought they were new and gave us "new" price when we sold them back at the end of the semester.

Are you traveling to the US or on a connecting flight within the US? If VS allows you to travel with them, obviously the connecting airline in the US may not, and US Customs might have another opinon.

My guess would be that you could, as long as they are sealed to prevent them from rolling around in your bag. It's not like there's a lot of "explosives" in them, it's simply a christmas cracker. Although somewhere there's probably some idiot that made something "bad" out of christmas crackers so there's probably regulation against it.

I'd be curious to know what you find out though...

Have a look here to see what makes a cracker bang.

I think you should be fine as long as they stay in the box.

Chemistry bit - see here to what the actual chemical used in the cracker bang strip is.

If you really really want, when I'm next at work I'll have a look at one of our 'IATA - carrage of dangerous goods by air' 400 page manuals. Technically I'd say they should be OK as checked luggage as they would be classed as 'limited quantities' as aerosols are. Although we only deal with shipping chemicals as cargo, carrying these sort of things on an aircraft yourself is a whole different matter [:w]

You can only take them in your checked in luggage in their original boxed packaging.

You can not take crackers on board. They must always be left untouched in their original packaging and should be placed in your checked in bags. You could take them to gate and hand them in there to checked in to the hold but to be honest it's not worth it when you know in advance they aren't allowed on board.

Party Poppers are a big no. They aren't even allowed in your checked baggage and have to travel as cargo as dangerous goods.

I would say that if they are in your checked luggage that should be fine. :)

The only crackers allowed onboard are Jacobs cream crakers.... Christmas crackers are only allowed if the "Bang strip" has been removed so then theres no point in a cracker anyway!!!

On Baraniac once they put 500 cracker "bangers " together - then pulled them al at the same time - it made a might big explosion!!

For those who dont know what Im talking about its a science programme on Sky where they do daft things like walk on custard and grab hold of electric fence cables and drop safes from a great height and try to explode petrol with 50 mobile phones ringing ( and it didnt explode - so why do they bad mobiles on petrol forecourts???)
