Hi guys n gals,

After redeeming 62,500 miles for a PE return to SFO, I'm left with a measly and pathetic 596 in my account. I'm just wondering what this will mean in terms of possible op-ups etc i.e. will I get treated like a non-loyal (peasant ;)) customer, or is there some way that VS can see at check-in how many miles I've previously had/redeemed, and tier points?

I'll reach silver on return from BOS in April :D

Any ideas, especially those insiders?!

I would have thought that your FC status (red, silver gold, LROM) has more bearing on upgrade chances etc rather than either your current mileage balance ot turnover.

You will get treated like the pretty lady you are!!!!

But I agree - I do think that yoru tier status has more bearing - we were op-upped just as we reached silver once and that woudl seem to be something that does happen pretty regularly!!!

Hi,

There is a lifetime section on the Oracle database that staff can see on number of sectors done, number of miles earned, number of miles redeemed, member since etc. But this is not factored in for upgrades - it is done on the variables discussed as before such as FC status.

Thanks,
Richard

I wouldn't worry Jacq - like has been said, I'm pretty sure it's your FC status that counts rather than your mileage balance :)

To me, a low mileage balance just says you've been taking advantage of the FC rewards on offer [y][y]

Cheers

I agree with csparker. I would have thought that your mileage balance would have absolutely no bearing on the way VS view your loyalty.

First of all, you can acquire a massive balance without ever setting foot on VS metal. Secondly, points are there to be spent - not hoarded. ;)

A silver card shows your loyalty, and to a much greater extent, so does a gold one [}:)];)

Cheers guys, much appreciated. I will of course let you know in the unlikely event of an upgrade! ;)

I've only flown from LHR-NYC and SFO-LHR in the last few months (on a lousy N class ticket as I didn't know anything about miles etc when I booked it) so haven't actually got any miles or tier points from flights yet. I will have around 21,000 miles in my account at the end of next month what with the casino, partner hotel stays etc.
Looking at a UC trip to Sydney later this year, so Ag straightaway for that........and quite a few more miles :)

Do VA actually know at the airport exactly where your miles have come from or just a total?

I wouldn't think that the staff at the airport know your FC account balance. As we have said, the balance of you account has little or no bearing on status.

Correct, that is why the check-in staff ahve to phone through for approval if you want to do an on the day mileage upgrade.

Thanks,

Hi,

The ticket desk certainly know your total mileage ( after you give them your number) as I enquired at the tcket desk a couple of years ago about upgrading from PE to UC . The check in agent said "seats were available, lets just see how your balance is ... no problem at all.. " them the tickets were changed to upper class.

I am sure they can find out, however in MIA, after enquiring about an upgrade using miles, they were not aware of the number of miles I had. I assured them I had enough. After telling me, I was in the wrong booking class I actually decided against it, as the £500 didn't seem worth it..........Typical!! :-)

I am also a spent out Silver member, glad to hear the silver card might gain me a bit of respect then.
Only had an op up once when I arrived at my PE seat to find chewing gum over the seat and leg rest.
Never been lucky since! I know there are no tips!
