Luggage Question - UC

PostPosted: 09 May 2004, 20:41

Here's another newbie question! Flying to MCO next Saturday for a week and want to travel light.

I'm in UC. I seem to remember years ago when I flew Qantas Business Class that some passengers would take a 'suit hanger' bag and they hung it up for you on the flight. I want to take just a hold all as checked luggage and a suit bag for shirts etc as hand baggage. Can you take a suit carrier bag onto the plane?

Thanks a lot.

Phil

Hi Phil

It does say '1 garment bag 20cm thick when folded' - I would say it's down to the IFS on the day or if there's enough room in a wardrobe wheather they will allow you to hang it up though.

I recently flew back from JFK in UC and had two huge paintings with me and that was no problem.

Then I also noticed some other UC passengers with what I could only describe as their cases with them!!!

However, in UC on LGW flights there is the large wardrobe at the front of the cabin so I guess you will have no problems hanging it in there.

Just on other point, in my experience on the MCO route (in UC and PE), the luggage is always through by the time I get to it. The only wait is where you hand it back to go over to the other terminal. And don't forget you have a security check point in MCO when you get off the plane (which is beyond me....why do they have that?)

At MCO UC and PE baggage does come off on a seperate belt which helps reduce conjestion (at the first luggage collection point anyway)

Though by the time you hand back your luggage and it comes off the second belt there's absolutley no priority which does kinda' defeat the object. I had to wait ages to collect one of my bags off the second belt last time I went though MCO and was in UC.

I hate the baggage collection at MCO. Why do you have to collect your bags twice [?]

It would make like so much easier if your luggage could go straight off the aircraft and go to the second belt.

Has VH re-started the scheme they used to have where you could by-pass the 2nd belt and your luggage went straight to the Dollar rent-a-car pick-up area [?] I think this was stopped after 9/11.

James, they no longer provide that service.

What I was going to say on my last post was, no doubt you will have a car to collect Phil at MCO. What I normally do (but keep this a secret as everyone in MCO will be doing it), is go and sort the car out, then go back for any checked luggage.

That way you miss the 20 mile long line at the car rental desk, and your bags are going round the carousel waiting for you.

Luckily every time I fly into MCO I'm off the plane and home within 75mins (thats stopping at the grocery store on the way back to:D)

Appreciate all the replies. Thanks very much. I look forward to the joys of MCO baggage reclaim[:(]. At least I am prepared for it and can practice my Victor Meldrew before I get off the plane.

I am staying with friends, who are picking me up from the airport. I'm having it easy. Why should I complain?[8D]

Hi,

I did not have any problems with bag reclaim at MCO on 30th Arpil, by the time we cleared immigration the UC/PE bags were on the belt ( we were held on board the aircraft for 5-10 minutes due to a BA 777 unloading its pax before us and resulting in a full immigration hall ). Immigration itself took around 5mins or so.

You have to reclear security as you are still airside and mixing with outgoing pax before taking the train to the main terminal. Thiua only took a few minutes. A few minutes after arriving at the belt the cases came off.

I take it you will use the special services? i.e. they will come to the plane and put her in one of their wheelchairs?
You will probably be last off the plane in that case, so they can bring the wheelchair onboard?

Hi candyman,

Left the aircraft around 250pm approx and was at the baggage reclaim in the main terminal at around 320pm ( bags off at 325pm ). This is after depositing thebags on the belt after customs ( going through a secondary inspection-bag was opened , a very quick look, a couple of questions and then close the bag again- all done very friendly) and clearing security so from aircaft to bags at main terminal 35mins

alana she will have to have her own wheel chair brought to the plane because she has to have a special harnes to suport her so yes we do expect to be off last BUT someone did say that sometimes either they get it up to uc passengers quickly or you can be escorted through to imigration by virgin staff not sure who tho

perhaps someone can help me again here

In my experience you will be asked to wait until last.

Then once off the plane you will go through a special lane at immigration for people requiring such as wheelchair passengers or meet and assist passengers.

They only off load from door L2 and will want to get everyone off as quickly as possibe to turn the plane around.

You really will not benefit by being first off.

SO my advice is once you land just relax while the other 439 passengers get off and you can gather your belongings, then the ground staff wil come and help!!
