Timing of Retrospective Claim

Hi All,

It seems that this 39/40 TP crossover I'm about to do raises all sorts of questions! And here's another...

I've flew to Dublin with BMI this weekend and on a "C" class fare on the return leg. Without thinking I attributed the miles to my Diamond Club account but pondering on it now, if I was to go through the legwork of getting the miles transferred to FC I'd also get 1TP and hence FC Gold. However, there's no benefit in me obtaining Gold just yet since I don't have another Virgin flight for about 3 months so they'd be "lost" Gold-status months. So, my questions essentially boils down to:

With a retrospective mileage claim that increases your Tier Point status, at what point is your status year calculated from? From the time the flight is applied to your account or from the actual date of the flight in question?

If the former, it would make sense for me to hang on with this claim for a little while to ensure I don't end up with those 'empty' gold-status months!

Cheers,

Darryl

All miles and TPs are awarded on the date flown - this applies retrospectively too so it makes no odds when you credit the miles!!

Hi Randalf

Generally speaking, miles and tier points are credited for the date flown, however, in my experience, if you are making a claim for a past flight that will take you to another FC level (FC Au), your Au year will start when the points are credited and not be backdated to the date of the flight. This is what happened to me when i moved from FC Ag to FC Au.

For example, i was FC Ag, i took a partner flight in July that took me over 40 TPS to FC Au but the points did not credit over until September (i had to make a claim) and now my Au anniversary is in September, even though the qualifying flight I took was in July.

Hope that makes sense?

I am sure that the same would happen to you.

Thanks,
Sarah

I assume thats because you didnt have Au benefits in July-Sept - I suppose that makes sense!!

Just to add a note in regards to retrospective claims for Tier Points:

The onus is now on you to chase missing Tier Points within a timely manner. So if you are counting on tier poitns to achieve or retain, then:

Partner airline tier point late credits - automatic re-upgrades
VS late claim of tier points Ð no re-upgrade

So if you are cutting it fine with flights to requal, then make sure you are on top of having them credited, especially if it is a VS flight.

Randalf, you can't do the legwork of having them transferred from BMI to VS, once they are there, that is it.

Thanks,
Richard
