hi. Well I have booked my first long haul flight with Virgin. We will be flying to LAX in PE. After looking at various airlines I chose virgin as they seemed the most child friendly and amazingly were cheaper than BA by over a £1000 which is a lot.

we booked with VH even though there accomadtion choices were limted.

so as a first timer I have some question that I hope you can help with:D

1.How is it best to seat a family of 4 (3 adults and 1 child), I am thinking 2 in front and 2 behind however will it be better in rows next to each other?[?]

2.We have booked flights from Manchester to LHR with BMI, do we check in our luggage just once at manchester or do we have to check it in again at manchester?

Also any other tips will be welcomed greatly.

Question 1

If you're on a 747 I'd book the last two rows side by side upstairs.

If it's a 346 go 2 in front 2 behind.

Can't answer Question 2 as I've never done that before.

bmi's new policy is to not "thru-check" bags for seperate tickets. That means, if your flights were booked seperately (not on the same ticket pack/e-ticket), you'll have to re-check you bags at LHR I'm afraid. (Yes, a real pain in the a***).

hi. Thank you for your replies. I booked the BMI flights with VH when I booked my Virgin flights so I am not sure if I will get a 1 or 2 tickets.

I have plenty of time to check in at LHR and I can do OLCI can't I.
I am just a bit worried about LHR and LAX airports. are they really big, when I get to LHR will it be easy to find the Virgin check in?
Also are BMI and Virgin in the same terminal and if not is it easy to get to the other terminal?

Virgin checkin at Terminal 3 is Zone A, I think. In any case, it's a large zone all to itself at the far left of the checkin hall. I might go as far as saying "you can't miss it" but perhaps that would be tempting fate!

If you've flown from CDG, you have my deepest sympathy. If you can navigate that place, you can navigate anything.

Flying PE with my own two children, we've always gone for two in front and two behind. Try to get seats upstairs if it's a 747 - much more exciting.

wow I really did not find CDG that bad apart from the fact we had walk miles to get to the check in desk.

Claire,

BMI will fly into T1, Virgin go from T3. There's a load of signs pointing to flight connections, which you can follow if your bags are thru-checked. If they're not - you'll have to exit T1 with your luggage, and then follow signs to T3 to re-check in.

If you can't check your bags all the way through and have to make your own way to T3, it really is not too bad as it is well signposted. When you arrive at the T3 Departures area the Virgin Atlantic desks are right there at the entrance. You can't miss them!

When I've had to do it that way (and generally speaking, even if my bags are thru-checked I prefer it to using the Flight Connections Centre) I have found it takes roughly 45 minutes from aircraft to security - depending, of course on the queues at check-in or the bag-drop

If you follow the signs to T2, T3, Heathrow Express you will then be able to navigate to T3. When you come from below the surface, the virgin check-in is right there.
Are you flying on the 007 (11.30) or the 023 (15.00). The first flight is most likely to be a 747-400 and the second an A340-600/300. If you are on the first flight, go for seats upstairs and on the second go for two window seats in two rows.
