VS005 LHR-MIA Queries

PostPosted: 22 Apr 2006, 20:20

I'm off on my first ever Virgin Atlantic flight in June to Miami (should be A346) but I have a few queries:

1. I have currently selected seats 35A and C for both legs, is there really less legroom than D,E,F & G seats? Even if there is I would tempted to stay in A & C because with only 2 of us travelling I think it would be nice to sit together with no-one else!
2. Secondly, I am bit confused about the IFE box issue, where are these situated?
3. Thirdly, if I chose not to use online check-in could these seats be selected by someone else as soon the flight opens up 24 hrs before?

Thanks in advance for any replies :)

I've just looked at my booking again and our seats have completely changed, we are now much further down the plane (61A+C)...why would this happen? Our original seats are unavailable now.

Is it still a 346? An aircraft change will cause the system to re-assign seats, but doesn't take into consideration what you already had.

Yea its still a A346 although it seems to have changed to the new A346 configuration.

It could be bacuse the A346 has changed to the new config. My A346 MIA flights in December changed last week from config 1 to config 2.

The way to tell is to have a look at the seat map. If there's a galley in the middle where doors 4 are (half way down the economy cabin) it's the old config A346. If there's no galley there it's the new config A346. The new A346 config also has 6 rows of PE seats instead of 4.

Just annoying because if I want one of the window seats (because travelling as 2 and would be nice to seat just the 2 of us together) I have to go right at the back of the aircraft now whereas I was quite near the front of Y before.

Yes, I know it can be annoying, to top it all there are people at the front that wish they could be at the back. VS IT have a H missing!

I beleive at the end of May around 5 A346 will have been refitted with the new config so maybe thats the reason your seats have been reassigned as the new config flights will operate to Miami first as they will be sold in the new config.

The DEFG on the current A346 do have more leg room than ACHK so I would suggest the centre seats!

Hope this helps and makes sense!

Thanks for the update Declan, it is always good to have it first hand. [y]

Yes thanks Declan [y]

I guess they are not taking very long to change over then.

Cool, I might get one of the new config A346's on my HKG/SYD flights then (although seat maps not showing new config on VS web site).

I have now changed to a 'D' seat though on all my flights. Leg room vs. a window. Sorry but on a 12.5 Hr over-night flight in Y - extra leg room always wins [:w]

Do you know if this is still the case with the new config?

The leg room in Y will be the same all over the cabin on the new config A346's.

Thanks Mitchja. I might gamble then and stay in my AC seats and hope we get a new config A346.
