US and US-UK Travel Deals

Hi There,

Due to my wife snagging a job in California through relentless hard work, I am going to be relocating to the LA area next month. Her generous employer gives us a travel allowance which we'll be looking to devote to travelling within the States and (occasionally) returning home to the UK with Virgin.

I'd be grateful to hear any recommendations from my soon to be neighbours on where to get the best deals on flights and hotels (aside from direct from VS, of course).

Thanks

Funny you should mention them. Wife's employer is a major retailer so Wal Mart will definitely be off limits - unless we are mystery shopping.[:w]

Find a good travel agent, for most stuff you can get away with booking yourself, but when the crap hits the fan there is nothing better than a good TA in your corner..get the wife to talk to her co-workers,they should be able to point you in the right direction..also ask on here, alot of the members do a lot of traveling, you will be able to get unbiased reivews of places etc.

Ta.
I am pretty familiar with the likes of Expedia, Airline Network etc over here and tend to do a lot of our travel research.
My wife's going to have to hire those co-workers before she can ask them anything - maybe i'll get her to make that part of the interview.

Ardbroilach,
Congratulations to your wife. I live near LA so if you have LA-related questions feel free to PM me.

Discovered this site recently which is kind of neat. They are currently offering a chance to win a trip to merry London on VS, so maybe you'll snag another free trip home!

MDR is going through a renaissance and getting back to its original glamour. Very convenient to the Westside (Santa Monica, Brentwood) and as you say, LAX, about a 10-minute ride down Lincoln Boulevard.

Wishing you both much success.

Ardbroilach,

Congratulations! As a fellow Brit who moved to LA 7 years ago I can tell you that you will love it here and won't look back!

Being based in LA a popular destination is Hawaii. The best site I have found for Hawaii deals is http://www.travel-hawaii.com
