Just checked in for tomorrow's flight to MCO. Should have been on my way to stay at LGW Hilton by now but unfortunately had a phone call at 6am this morning to say that my father is ill and had been taken to hospital.
Should be picking him and Mum up from Sanford airport on Tuesday to stay with me for two weeks. I know he is still determined to travel if given the all clear - must be where I get my stubborness from.
Not sure I could travel without them now, fingers crossed please.

Hi everyone and a big thank you for all your kind comments.
The good news is that I am in Florida but unfortunately my parents won't be arriving today as planned. Until 8am yesterday they were still intending to travel as the hospital had said it was OK. Unfortunately just as I was about to check in I received a phone call saying that the hospital had rung to see how he was (how weird is that!) and asked him to go back and not travel.
Being a woman of a very sensitive nature it was obvious to check in staff there was a problem - how wonderful they were and even then telephoned up to the clubhouse to let staff know my situation and that I may need to be offloaded. They went beyond their duty and couldn't do enough for me - I only wish that I could remember any names to make sure they were thanked personally, both at check in and the clubhouse.
After many phone calls in the clubhouse I was re-assured by other family members that he would be OK and I was to travel. Still not sure I've made the right decision!
I won't both with a TR this time as after quite a few champagnes and a G & T after take off there's not much to report, cabin crew looked after me - even sitting with me for a chat for a while as the flight wasn't full. I watched no TV, ate nothing, but on the plus side must have slept for 6 hours or more.
Immigration was around a 20 minute wait but luggage was waiting and security was a breeze.
Still waiting to hear from home but made them promise to ring if I need to come home urgently and feel happy that at this time of year it wouldn't be a problem to get home quickly.
Thanks again for all your well wishes.

Oh Jilly - Im sorry that he wasnt able to travel - I am sure that the hosptal will be doing everything they can to make sure that he is OK.
It sounds like the check in staff, the CH staff and the crew on board have helped to make you comfortable although Im sure that its difficult at a time like this.
We are all sending you BIG HUGS from v-flyer and wishing you the very best.
Please let us all know how things are and if theres anything any of us can do to help then all you have to do is ask.[y]

Hopefully it won't be too long before they join you Jilly and I am sure you will all have a great vacation. Try not to worry too much, if they have said it is okay for him to travel, I am sure he will be alright. They tend to err on the side of caution these days so if there was any doubt in their minds, they would have said no.

Bazz is right Jilly, hospitals do tend to err on the side of caution.
Try and have a good time out there and remember, we're all thinking of you on v-flyer.

Jilly,
Hopefully your parents will be able to join you soon - I know it can be very hard to be away from family at times like these.
I'm sure everything will work out fine, and hope a bit of Florida sun helps your fathers recovery

I feel for you as I've been in a similar position before and everything turned out okay.
Wishing you all the best - try and have a rest during the break as you will need it.
At least in the US their email and phone systems are so good that you can be in constant touch.
Take care.

Just an update for everyone - my parents are, unfortunately, not able to join me this time. However, my Dad is now at home and feeling much better. Whether he will be able to to fly in the future is something that can't be answered at the moment, but I live in hope and am just happy that he is OK.
For anyone travelling out to MCO in the near future - the weather is hot and the beer is cold - certainly feeling very relaxed now.
Thanks again for all your thoughtful messages it really has helped.
