Ok, I have yet to actually use my miles for anything, I've been saving them up until I have enough for a UC flight (I'm almost there, but not quite).

My mom would like to use her miles to upgrade from Y to W. My question, is sort of two fold. For starters, how do I book this? Is there a way to book the upgrade via the VS website?

Second, does this earn any mileage? My assumption would be that she'd earn Economy mileage as she purchased an Economy ticket, is this correct?

Sorry if its a stupid question, I've just never actually redeemed miles before, and she's turning to me (with the VS know-how) to set it straight...

No way to book it via the vs website, I'm afraid - upgrades need a call to FC.

Bear in mind that your ticket will need to be in Y or B classes (ex US) for an upgradable fare - these are not cheap. She will earn economy mileage (+ any tier bonus) on the purchased flight, but not on the upgraded cabin. (so 100% as an economy ticket).
